PTO Lock Pin Spring

I recently lost a pto lock pin off of a new removable overdrive clutch. I found the replacement. My question is, how do you get the spring on the pin? I get that the end of the spring is smaller than the end of the pin so it holds it on. Is there a trick to getting it on ? I have been fighting this thing trying to push it on or even screw it on. No luck. The pic is from ebay where I bought it (shows the spring “on” the pin.
Thanks!

Are you trying to install it over the knob with the pin still in the Over-Running (?) clutch. You have to remove the pin from the Over-running clutch (aka ORC). Install the spring on the lock pin then install the pin in the ORC. Not all pins and springs are the same. The pins are held in, at the small end, by different methods. Is the pin and spring you got for the brand of ORC you have?

The pin has to go in the orc first. It wouldn’t have clearance to go through if the spring was on first.
The pin fits perfectly (not same manufacturer). Just need to figure out how to get the small end of the spring over the knob on the pin.

Thanks. I will try that. Thinking through that idea, it should work.
I don't see how the lock pin can do it's job if the small, tight end of the spring is out near the end of the lock pin. Either the spring needs to go on the other way or it's an error from the supplier and the pin and/or the spring do not match the application.

How could it possibly work for the spring to push the pin back outward to the locked position if the outer end of the spring doesn't move freely on the pin?
