pto won't engage

can't get the pto lever to move forward or backwards won't engage look in side can't get the rod there to move

You're writing about the "PTO engagement rod" ? Can you write where it is and how you're looking at it?

My PTO engagement lever is on the left side, by the driver's heel. Once the side cover is off, there is no way to watch it work, because it's removed.

So, not quite sure what you're doing?

so you have looked into the port after removing the cover with the pto shifter?

with tractor off is there iny in / out play on the pto shaft?

did it shift normally then stop one day after (something? ) hapened.. like stalling it out running a pto mower hitting something?

just got this tractor in a trade had some in out movemont in the pto shift but was told to re press the bearings that stop the movemont but it still would not engage with the pto shift out can see a rod from the inspec side but can't get it to move in or out

try persuading very lightly with a brass or copper maul and a drift, if needed.

tried that will move in about 1/4 in and spring back out sounds like something is blocking the part#(7) from going in all the way to engage

took a 32oz ball ping hammer handle and push like *?'% got to move in and out now put it back together now going to get hyd oil to see if it will work now will get back

if you drop the pump I think you can drop the entire mechanism out the bottom.

as i said.. I think the entire assy will come out the bottom once pump is out.

This what I found I removed the countershaft bearing support to find that the bolt that holds the pto hub gear on has broke and would not let the pto engage drilled and tap the countershift and put a new washer and bolt back in countershift would not come out do to the snap ring in front of the gear and front bearing would have to split the tractor at the motor and tranny to get to that put the pump back in and she goes in pto now i can look at my hydraulic they will go up but won't lift so going back in to look for leaks will let you know what i find thats soundguy for your help I did go get a fo4 manual made more sence when you can see the pics and see the words thanks again

Please speak english. So the shaft wouldn't move and you hit it with a 2# hammer and now the shaft moves but you have a broken bolt. You have drilled and tapped something for some reason and the shifter moves but your hydraulics still don't work and I am still mystified as to what your real probem is. I think you need to slow down and figure out what the real problem is.

did you not read all the post of just some the pto would not engage the bolt that hold that gear on broke in that shift drill it out and put a new one in now that the pto works i can find out what is wrong with the hydraulic got the tractor in a trade so didn't know much about it but learning fast

pull a side cover and look for leaks when trying to lift.

couldn't do much today lil rain here in tx but did take of inspec cover and a lot of oil coming for around the front of the cylinder area not back by the rod so is that a piston or ring or both

oil from the open mouth of the cyl is piston seal.

oil from above the cyl where it mounts to the top cover is 3 lil gaskets. on from the front top side of the top cover ( may spray and run down cyl ), is the top cover gasket.
