At what age do most clubs allow children to start pulling. Do you give a drivers test and up to what age? what other requirements such as wheelie bars and kill switches. We Pull antiques at 4MPH Max.Our club is going through a battle over this now and would like some input from others. Thanks.

I started pulling at the earliest age available in our area which was 12 years old with guardian permission.

Now before that I had to prove to my grandfather that I could handle the tractor. He started me out pulling up and backing into the sled, which in my case was a dead sled pan. Then it was one to learn how to hold it with the clutch only at the start line and starting off easy.

After you get comfortable with that they would hook the truck to the back of the sled, let you get going and then lock the brakes to teach me how to get the tractor down from a rare. In our family you arent allowed near a tractor till you pass grandpa's tests.

If you get out there too soon, it will only hurt yourself, someone else, and devastae a kids moral.

Just my two cents.

I started pulling at age 10 had to back up to the sled all my self. That was with a stock motor dad broke a crank. I pulled that way for about four years and learned how to read a track. I was pulling with wheelie bar and a kill switch.

I can share a few thoughts, as a promoter and puller we have allowed kids as young as 10 years old, my nephew started last year at 10, we spent alot of practice time and he has excellent control, he can back up and stop appropiately, he starts well and picks a good line and listens well, we allow an adult to walk along side and support. One of the other culbs we pull at has an age requirement of 16, they have very few young pullers in comparison, honestly at 16 they are interested in cars, dating and not likely to start tractor pulling if they have not developed some interest already. For my opinion, 10 to 12 is okay with the right training and commitment to safety...

Our club is 12 and pass a driver test. Such as starting stopping basic functions and go through the sled actions. 16 you can pull with no driver test. We pull at 3.5mph, no kill switchs, front end no more then 16" off the ground.

I was right around 12 when I first pulled. I'd been around the sport for a little while though. working events and everything. Anyone that knows Danny give him a hard time for me. I'm in Texas now and there isn't any pulling down here except for modifieds to speak of. Maybe I should get something going!!!
