Does anyone have any experience on this? The horepower rated the same but the weight seems to be lighter on the newer 283. I have a chance to buy 283 with only 900 hrs on it. I have the 275 pulling a 10 foot heavey harrow pulls it good but seems to be all it wants. I don"t think I can aforde to give up pulling power. Specs that I can fined shows at lest 500lbs. diference. How many hours are these tactors good for if worked hard but oil changed reguler good for between rebuilds?

According to spec's the 283 has the about the same hp as a 383, which is British made, the 283 is probably made in Brazil, 275 was made in Canada, check your engine size i've seen 236 or 248 engines in what was supposed to be 275's ,could have been 265 with wrong decals, 283 lists 248,also check gearing,i have a 255 with an 8 speed trans. and a 236 that the rear end is geared to high to pull very good in high range, we had a 175 with the same motor and trans.in 4th high the 255 would out run it down the road in 3rd high, but the 175 would easily out pull it under load ,i use a 28 blade jd wa disc behind the 255, loads it in 4th low running on the wheels to control depth,383 will pull it full section wheels lifted and a leveling board carrying a load of dirt an never lug it down in 1st high, when i was looking to buy the 383 i asked the dealer if it would handle the disc, because if it didn't i was going to be a sick pup he said it would and it does and i've been pleased with the overall performance,as for dependability in my experience the MF's are as good as the come.

I know a guy that bought a new late model 255 with the 236 engine. The dealer asked him if he wanted to turn it into a 265. Just a simple adjustment of the injection pump but would use a little more fuel. The guy didn't need the extra power so said no. Dave

I bought the 283 going to swap the spin out rims to the 283 witch seems to be where a lot of the weight is. At some point I will let everyone know just how equal they are in pulling.
Thanks for the replies any others are welcome.
