Is this type pump easy to get parts for? Does anyone recognize what type it is? It's on the back of the M602...

It is heating pretty good, so I know it is leaking internally - even though it seems to generate plenty of pressure...

It's a Webster Pump. Anything other than seals, It doesn' hardly pay to repair. If you have good pressure I would suspect some other problem to cause it to heat up. After starting the tractor will it heat up just sitting there running? If it does you might have a blockage in the flow divider valve for the power steering or your valves are not centered in the tel-o-flo valve body.

Mine heats up Pretty good too. I wonder if a certain amount of heat on these isn't somewhat natural for them? Is there any long time moline guys that can confirm them running this way OR ????

I had no reason to touch mine I guess I was putting something on or taking something off the PTO and noticed it was rather warm. Just cutting hay. No loader on the tractor.
 

This one gets warm enough you can smell it "fuming" somewhat. Too warm to hold your hand on...

No other symptoms, though, other than warm. The steering is very easy and it lifts very well with no leak down at all on the three point.

Pumps creat flow not pressure. hydraulics will warm up due to restrictions in the system. whether they are relief valves, unnecessary orphises (bends, kinks in lines), pluged filter, spool levers not in netrual position. the best thing to do is to barrow some flow meters if possible and check the flow and pressure of the system.

I would like to recomend, but it cost money, to replace the hydraulic hoses on the tractor. from the looks of them, they could be original and the insides of them are getting worn out just like the outsides. I have heard of old lines rupturing or springing a pinhole leak.

Im 80% sure the pump is not leaking, i could be wrong but from how the oil is that i assume is hydraulic oil, its comming from somewhere else. Also you might want to check that rear PTO seal. the Jetstar 3 in school needs a new one because it has a very slow drip from time to time.
 

I sure didn't have to run it long or do much with it for it get really warm. More than just sitting there idling, though.

How can I diagnose the blockage or tel-o-flow you mentioned??

I agree with the plugged line or restriction somewhere. I have a 5 Star that the pump got so hot you couldnt touch it. When I got it it had a brazed steering line at a bend. I am planning on restoring it in the future and havent installed a new line on it to try it out, but I did take the old one off and cut it over. Sure enough it only had a hole about the size of half a pencil for the oil to go through. Maybe thats why the original pump was shot. Most pumps in general will get warm enough that it will be uncomfortable to touch, but unless you are working it they shouldnt get hot enough to burn you with no load.
 
Get an IT manual and a 0-2,000 psi pressure gauge and perform the tests prescribed in the manual. You will either locate a problem or becaome satisfied that there isn't a problem.
 
The proper way to check is like Curt says, and that takes some equipment like we have here in the shop. But there may be a couple of things you can do to narrow it down. You said the power steering works fine. That would take some suspicion off the flow diveder valve. But maybe it's working too good and forcing too much oil to the PS. So it's no big deal to check it out . Unsrew the cap carefuly don't loose any springs and remember the order they go. Check for broken springs lodged foreign material, and check the inside of the bore. If everything is good, then without the use of expensive equipment. (This might be a bit messy)take the pressure line off the pump, attach a long good clean hose to the pump and under the seat take off the plate that has the Rate and Cycle levers on it. Place the other end of the hose in that opening securly. Start the tractor at an idle, and gradualy increase speed so as not to blow oil all over everything. If the pump does not heat up you know it is OK.
