Pumpkin pests

I've got a few pumpkins growing and some worm I guess is making tiny holes in them and leaving a gel like substance around the hole. This is all over the pumpkins. I've sprayed with 7. I hope that will kill whatever. I don't know if the pumpkins will heal over or if whatever stays inside and has already ruined the pumpkin or what.

What is it and how do pumpkin growers deal with this? Do you have to walk the fields every few days and spray new pumpkins as soon as they appear then keep reapplying when it wears off. It's hard enough for me with 6 plants I just can't imagine how a grower handles this problem.

I hate to spray so much as I don't want to kill whatever is pollinating the plants.

Lastly, do we have a crop issue forum? If not it might be a good thing.
