question about paint.

I went to check the price of dupont nason and was told 200$ a gal, that seems realy high for that qaulity. I also checked at napa and there crossfire was 100$ gal. plus 100 for the clear. but the only jd green they had was for the newer tractors. did anyone ever use martin sen. paint for a jd and what was the color # and what is peoples opinion on that paint. I am painting a model 70D. Brad.

I think you will find that all of the latest paints, no matter who makes it, are very high priced! The one reason for the high prices, so i've been told, is to discourage "backyard body men and painters" from using the product, being affected healthwise from misuse of the materials, with no safety equipment, like fresh air supplied breathing apparatus and state of the art spray booths and equipment. The mfgrs are trying to stay clear of law-suits from unprotected people using their products, then suing the makers of the paints, etc. For which, untrained juries will award great amounts of monies to affected people!
As for "perfect match", unless you have one machine sitting nearby to the one you want to paint, but can't afford the perfect match colors, at high prices charged today, i would think you could get away with a lower priced paint, if you can find some. Something "close" would suffice, and look just as good!

BPS paint sold at tractor supply stores works really well.

The paint I always use, and I have painted several tractors, is the TCI industrial paint from NAPA. They have John Deere Green and JD Yellow. Also purchase the hardner for the paint. Paint works well and tractors look great!
