Questionon D-17 tire size

Hello;

The front tires I now have are 5.50 X 16 inches, but I was looking for the beefier tire than this. In the book they say that 6.00 X 16 is standard.

So, will this 6.00 fit on my rim, AND give me that beefier tire I want up front?
Thanks a bunch

I think you can use whatever you want but it does have to match your rear tire size to some degree or your tractor will either look like it"s going down or uphill. My two cents CT

I think as long as the tire is 16 inch, you can put any 16 inch tire on the rim. I think what happens is that the wider tire on a narrow rim will cause the tire to "ridge" in the middle, and the primary wear will occur at the ridge.

Dont know any more than that

David, you didn't say if it was wide or narrow front, that will have some impact and I don't think you can fit 7.50X16's on a narrow front. Also, late Series IV's had 6 bolt HD front hubs while everything before had 5 bolt hubs.

My D17 Series IV ops manual lists 5.50X16, 6.00X16 and 7.50X16 as standard front tires. I run 6.00X16 on mine now but I would hazzard to guess that 6.50X16 is the most common size if the tires had been replaced. You can run up to 6.50X16 on a 4.5 inch front rim. To go to 7.50X16 you really need a 5.5 inch front rim. Here's what my Series IV looks like with the 6.00X16 front rims and 16.9X28 rears. The one on the other side of mine I think had 6.50X16's. I have had 750x16's on the front of my series 4 diesel over 25 years, used stock rim. 16.9x28,s on the rear. Looks good that way.
