Questionon electric gauge

I have a electric temperature gauge I want to put in my Allis B and want to know, is all I need is a electric sending unit? What then, ahd how is is hooked up right to make it go?

Your sending unit must be compatible with the range of your gauge, in ohms of resistance. From there, it just takes a "hot" wire to one side of the gauge, and the other side of the gauge connects to the sender. The sending unit provides the ground for the circuit.

So with a compatible sensor, if your gauge reads backwards, then reverse the connections on the back of the gauge. And never, ever, let the smoke out of the gauge, as it's durn near impossible to put it back in.

Unless you have a name brand gauge like Stewart Warner, VDO, Datcon, etc, you might as well throw it away and go get a gauge complete with sender and installation instructions. Different manufacturers use different senders and they are not the same from brand to brand. If gauge and sender are mismatched it may not work, may read incorrectly, or burn up.

Why not buy the correct gauge and install it. You can get them for around $30 and you will not have the wires running all over the place and not looking right. The correct place for a gauge on the B is up front in the hood just above the thermostat
