Quick Hydraulic Question

I'm getting ready to mount my Hydraulic tank and noticed something strange to me.
The tank was plumbed so that the working return came back to the tank through a spin no filter. The pressure relief return came back to the tank bypassing the filter.
I am re-piping the thing for my application, do I re-pipe as above or do I run both returns through the filter?

Leave it as is. Does your return line return below oil level and away from the suction port? Does the tank have abaffle?

The suction is on the back and the return is in the side below oil level. I have not pulled the plate to clean the inside so I don;t know about the baffle.

Why the bypass of the filter?

I am interested but you have me confused, I have never seen an application where the relief is filtered. In theory the relief may never open durring normal operation. Is this a funky industrial set up? I also sent you an e-mail. J.

Pressure releaf will probably only open when the filter plugs or when the oil is very cold. You could blow the filter to kingdom come if you plumb both through the filter.

I got the tank with the filter already mounted from a truck wrecking yard. it's a 28 gal. I am mounting it for a hydraulic winch on my from L9000.
I am re-plumbing it as the original plumbing is routed the opposite direction of what I needed.
