It rained hard all night in the vertical exhaust pipe of my 850 what do I need to do? Is this water a bad problem and if so how do I solve it? The rest of the tractor was covered. Help, I have put too much work into this already to be set back. Thanks!

Pull the plugs out and spin it over, doing that will clear out most of the water. After doing that check your oil and if its over full or looks like it has water in it change the oil and filter. Then start it up and run it long enough to get it good and warm and it should be just fine. Now if it didn't get much in it you could just start it but till you pull the plugs you will not know. I have a small problem with water getting into the exhaust of my Oliver 77 and it has never been enough to cause any problem but I also make sure I start it the day after it rain and I do get a little water out the exhaust just enough to make a mess but not enough to cause a problem

To add to what Old said... before it rains again, get a rain cap for your exhaust pipe. One that size would be under $15, I think. All my tractors with verticle exhaust have them, except the biggest one, which has a curved tip on the muffler. Any tractor dealership, Farm and Fleet, ect. should have them in stock.

Take the exhaust off and go to a muffler shop and let them bend the top of the pipe and then cut it at an angle. I like this better. The flapper can get caught under limbs and thing and get torn off. This should cost less than the $15 or so dollars quoted in the other post.

Wow, how much did it rain? Unless it rained a HUGE amount, I doubt that there would be enough to fill the muffler to the point it would drain water into the engine.

I think I would just start it up, expecting to have a bit of pretty dirty water drops come out of the exhaust as it came up to speed. But if you are really worried, doing what Old wrote should take care of the worst case scenario.

My 641D has a vertical exhaust and a rain cap. The rain cap still allows some rain to enter the stack, and I have gotten speckled with dirty black drops several times. So I try to remember to put a can over the top of the stack. Good luck!
