For the second time, in a years time, mice, rats or squirrls have damaged wires on my tractors. These tractors are kept at a hunting camp in south Alabama. I"ve put rat pellets out time after time thou I know I can"t kill "em all, I still try(grin). After planting deer plots, I"m careful to wash all remaining seeds & grass off, so that isn"t a problem. Any ideas on how I can keep these varmits from eating my tractors up? Thanks for your ideas.

pikewi, you have to sneak up on 'em, grab them from behind and just snatch 'em away.

I agree with the mothballs, they worked for me.

Don't know what the attraction is between electrical wiring and rodents. They get up in my boat trailer and I have to rewire every couple of years. Wish I had an answer...

Thanks guys. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM. They have cost me over $400.00 in the last year, not counting downtime. I'll keep watching this board. SoundGuy, the green bars seem to work, but these tractors are kept at hunting camp & I can't visit more than once a month or so. I set my last green bar out two weeks ago(only peeled a corner of the lid back). They hauled box & all off.

Get you a mess of Green bait bars and yellow bar bait. Break it apart and spread it all around your garage. I suggest you find the droppings and place the bait there. I think the fresher stuff works, and I am partial to the yellow bar bait. You need to kill those rats, mice, etc. But the main thing is getting enough coverage so even blind mice could find it.

I had a problem with rats several weeks ago. After I baited down the garage no more rats.

What part of south Alabama are you from? I live between Andalusia and Opp and besides the rats and squirrels the dirt dawbers make a mess too!!!!

I don't use the little boxes of pellets.. but rather the big 3" x 8" bars in celophane. I'll set a hole green one out, under the hood of each tractor.. that keeps other anmals out of it.. but the rats and mice find them just fine... must taste better than wires as I've not lost a wire harness since I started putting them out 3ys ago.

(quoted from post at 17:11:34 08/05/09) Grayider, I live east of Daphne, but the tractors are between Bay Minette & Loxley.

What's the street address of those tractors you only occasionally visit?
