Razor blade prices

Most of us guys on here shave. I shave everyday. But the prices of the razors I use were $10 for 10 cartridges now they are double that. Gillette has the market cornered. I have used the 3 blade style for so many years that I cant remember using anything else. What could I use that works good? I dont know if an electric razor will work good, I havent used one in at least 15 years now, I need a blade. Unless there are electric razors that work as good--I dont know. Is there a way to sharpen these blades?

I don't know if you have a local Target store close by you, but I always go to my local store and look in their "clearance" area and sometimes find the Mach 3 razors dirt cheap. Yea, I here you too. Blades are absolutely outrageous $$. Just my .02 worth. Good luck.

I need a blade on my face every day, almost feel like Mr. Filth if I dont shave. Just a way with me I guess, wife doesnt like a hairy face......We both agree on something. How about that.

I have been using the Personna triple blade throw away's for several year's. I shave every other day and they always last a month and I have got 2 months from a single razor. Not cheap, but reasonable for the job they do. Far better than anything else on the market that I have found.

Yep I shave when it is over 75-80 out but this time of year I would not even think about it. Yep the price to shave has gone way up and I do only shave in the summer of going out other wise I shave maybe 2 or 3 times a week if that. But yes will need to think about blades soon and not even sure what to buy any more since they have gotten so fancy with all them extra blades

I bought my first razor back in maybe 63 a Gillette double edge. I was told they don't last very long so I bought a second one new for maybe a couple of bucks, can't remember. That first one that I bought I am still using, the second one is still brand new. Aboard ship a few years later I started buying Wilkinson sword blades. Before I got discharged I bought a couple of sleeves of blades. They came 24 containers to the sleeve and 5 blades to the container. 40 cents per container. I still have a half a sleeve left.

I saw a new version at Target a few years back and bought a couple of containers. The new blades cut better than the old ones. I think then they sold for $1.20 a container, 5 blades.

They are advertised as Wilkinson Sword, the name on the worlds finest blade.

I would have scanned a blade from 1965 and a new one but my scanner printer doesn't want to work because I put in a refilled ink cartridge and the HP printer/scanner did not like that so it refuses to work.

I highly recommend Wilkinson Sword blades.

Why don t you buy A straight Razor , strop, Shaving soap, mug & brush . Buy one time it will last alife time. If you don t have a steady hand , life might be real short.
Then you would have a family heirloom to pass
pass on.

I can easily get 5 weeks from a blade, dry them off and they last a long time. Sometimes you find one that just won t last, and sometimes it will cut 6 months.

Anybody see the old SHICK INJECTOR BLADES anymore. Few years back I found several 5 blade injector packsought the store out. Haven"t seen any since. Wear a beard from October to April, and trim with an electric, but when I need a decent shave, out comes the Shick. Donno if they still make them, or whether they have discontinued them a long time ago...

Only thing that don't make my face look like a pizza is one of these.....

Electric is fine if I shave morning and evening. Face was all chewed up one morning in basic training and the Drill Sergeant bought me one like this with 3 settings (paid him back of course)...... Lost it over the years and was using mostly electric or the cheapest single edge disposeables. Got one of these, a mug, disc, and brush off ebay a couple years ago and been happy ever since...

The razor pictured, vintage-Gillette-safety is the
same one I have used for the last 50 plus years
except mine is a cheaper version. all stainless steel no plastic and did not have the fancy box. The Wilkinson
blades I mentioned I found on the internet for .99
cents for a pack of 5 blades and also for $1.29 for a
pack of 5. The blades made in Germany are the better quality.

I like the pink ones that have 4 blades and guards on all 4 sides. I haven't nicked myself once since using them and so what if they are made for the fair haired $ex. They seem to last forever. They work great for me. Get a 3 pack for $5 at WW.

PS Wonder how many wisecrackers will take a swipe at this. Grin

12 Personna single blade razors for a buck work just fine. Three, four, six blades, who are you trying to impress?

I hate shaving, hate it! My wife hates beards, so we compromise and I wear a beard in winter.

I'm going back to a safety razor. I have a very tough beard and I refuse to buy $15.00 razor blades, so I'm getting a single edge and I'll change blades more often if I have to.

There are websites on all the older style shaving stuff believe it or not. I've been using a brush and soap for 30 years, I was ahead of the curve!

Do you use em on your legs too???? Must be a Texas thing

HA!!

There was an old line attributed to Gillette or Schick, "Give "em the razor, sell "em the blades." They"ve made a fortune doing this.

I guess we can go back to using the straight razor when the cosper blade gets high enough.

I do have a vested interest in the Schick razors so take what I say with a grain of salt. Schick has a new razor, the Hydro 5 Power select. I was given a Hydro 5 last year. It is possible the best razor I have every used. There were supposed to be some $4 coupons that came out in todays newspaper for the new razor and some $1 and $2 coupons on the refills and shave preps. I would suggest that you try some of the new ones. The Schick blades are on average $1 per cartridge cheaper than the Gillette cartridges. I have found that if you will dry the blades they will last much longer.

What does drying the blade do? Prevent rusting? Is the edge lost when it stays wet? There must be a way to length the useful life if it is sharpened, maybe a stone drawn on the edge?

Hey Dave, let's use your Michigan for your pun. You wore out the
Lone Star State, which is still a Republic and only joined the union
for convenience...so we can leave whenever we feel we have had
enough of folks like you.......that are in Germany now?????

My dad used to have a sharpener for his double edged razor blades. Inside were two rollers covered by very smooth leather. Turn the crank, and it would stroke one side, flip the blade, and stroke the other side. A few strokes on each side kept the blade sharp for many uses.

OH Waaaaa........ You oughta try some starch and an iron..they won't wad up so quick then...

Just so you real Texans don't get too upset, I'm just pokin a little fun and don't mean any harm....

After trying just about every style of shaving devise known to man, I finally found the perfect shaver, a Panasonic electric. It was a little pricey ($140+) but well worth it.

The perfect razor for me is: any one that someone else uses! Can't stand shaving, and haven't had a razor to my face in over 20 years - and it will STAY that way!

Get a double edge safety razor. You can get new ones for $10-20 and blades are dirt cheap. Im using my dads old razor and blades I got off ebay. Very nice shave, very fast and cheap. Got 5 or 6 weeks out of this blade so far (I shave 4-5 times a week).

I bought these blades with the shave stick. Its a pretty good shave stick so Im ordering a dozen. At this rate I got 10 years of blades, I may as well have 10 years of shaving soap too.

At Price Club or Sams Club you can get them in bulk.
Like 40 dual blade disposables for $20-$25.

As for what blades last or don't last the type of facial hair/beard you have makes a big difference.

My brother has what I call "baby face" beard. Soft and easy to shave.

I have Brillo on my face and razors no matter how expensive just don't cut smooth more then a few times.
Living in Maine a beard is expected. In winter I grow a nice full beard, check bones to neck line.
Summer I go with the goatee look leave it around the chin and mustache. Those are the hard areas to shave anyway.
Wife hates beard unless its buzzed. But loves the stash and cried the first time I cut it off when I screwed it up over trimming it. Looking like a WWII dictator was not a option working in NYC!

Solution is not rocket science. If you can't stand the heat in the kitchen just get out, quit griping, and quit shaving. When your beard gets so long that you trip over it and wind up in the hospital, apply for wellfare.
