I've been using the napa fleet diesel, or valvolene diesel 15/40 ( same oil maybee? ) in my ford 5000 and NH 7610s and also change the fluid/filters regularly. IE.. sometimes 2x a year...

I have noticed a considerable drop in soot in the oil when i change.. IE.. the oil is keeping the soot suspened and the filter is removing it well. both of these tractors came to me with stereotypical 'coal black' oil.. and I know that at least , the 7610s was well maintained, because the prev owner had the local CNH dealer maintain it for the year it was owned by him, before i bought it. ( IE.. only 1 prev owner.. as he bought it new ).

I get my oil at the local NAPA. It is the NAPA brand, but they told me that it is Valvoline.

Same thing they told me. Looking at the bottle, the 'supplier' address is the very same.. so I'll bet it is a good gamble it at least comes out of the same refinery plant. etc. Even if the adds are slightly different.. should be same 'good' base oil stock anyway..

My favorite oil now is the havoline texaco star oil in black containers. I change my oil and check it often PRECISELY at 3000 miles.

I"ve been using fram filters, however, somehow I managed to poke a hole in one by using a wrench too hard on it, losing most of my oil out of the engine. That"s when I started using havoline oil after that emergency stop. It does not burn and my truck remains in great condition after that major oil loss.

I have been using Quaker state all my life in every vehicle I have ever owned. This is the brand my Dad used when I was growing up and he always got 200,000 plus miles out of his trucks. It has always been good for me so far. I currently have a 1999 F150 V6 with 172,000 miles that has never been touched except for a tune up.
Mostly is carries me to work and back 40 miles round trip, and hauls my JD B on the weekends. I would trust it to go from here to the east coast and back without a problem.

I dont think its the oil brand ( stay away from penzcrud ) that is the problems its How a person drives them & servace, drive nicely & servace them they will last longer than a fast hard driver & never change oil but once a yr person ( like my brother) i loaned him a pickup with a new gm eng in it & it was a yr later i got it back & asked how often did u change oil it was black as hell... he said about 3 times his wife told me later when he wasnt there i dont think it was ever changed... needles to say it uses oil now, but he was in a bad way & needed something to drive at time & it was just sitting around here still Change your oil people....

I have had exactly the same experience with Mobil One. It is really hot here in Texas and I just prefer the Mobil One over conventional oil. This Texas weather is Summer one day, Winter the next, Summer the next..... I run Mobil One 5W30 on cars and truck. Run Shell Rotella 15W40 in tractors. Run Mobil One 10W30 in lawn equipment, Zero turn, welder, etc. Tom

When my 2001 dually was new it used a bit of oil. Went back to the dealer and was informed that Chevrolet designed it to consume a little oil, which was a bit disappointing to me to say the least. At that time I was using Mobil 5w-30, but suddenly Mobil was no longer easily obtainable, so I switched to the NAPA brand, and surprisingly the oil consumption problems just vanished.

I'm with you on this one Gary. My '89 F350/w460 FI Engine has 219,000 Miles and will do all I ask of it to pull my 11 K Lb.,Jayco 5th Wheel RV Trailor any where we want to go. It has never had anything since draining the Factory Oil but Quaker State 10W30 when living in the Midwest and now 20W50 while living in AZ.I have used different Filters but now use mostly Fram Filters from Checker Auto Supply. I know Quaker State and Pennzoil share the same Ownership but Quaker State works for me and I will continue using it in my Car and Truck[Don't own a Lawn Mower any more LOL]

Interesting. While I'm not a huge fan of gm, after owning my wifes yukon for the past 6ys.. her's is the same way.. Occasionally my wife forgets to tell me it is due for an oil change, and she will go to a texaco quick lube by the house.. every time she does, the oil lamp comes on right near the next time for an oil change.. I use napa oil in her yukon when i change it, and it never uses oil on those changes.. only the texaco changes. I'm almost wondering if they are shorting her a half quart? I se ethat extra quart upcharge on her bill... hmm? texaco oil or short oil?

Pennzoil 30wt is the only oil my Super M-TA's have ever had in them.

Use to run Pennzoil 20w20 in my '69 Chevelle.

Cub Cadet 1200 has had nothing but Pennzoil 30wt in it.

'81 Bow Tie, 204,000 miles. Only Pennzoil and Quaker State used in it.

Just bought 3 cases of 10w30 and 1 case of 30wt Pennzoil that was on sale ! 8)

Guys As most of Ya'll know , for I have told this numerious times. Chevron Dello 400 15w40! Only!!!!
Old 87 Chevy Suburban had 86 K when bought, sold at 240K. Engine was never into.
My pride and joy....97 F-150 4.6 V8, auto, 4x4, Super Cab, long box. Bought by me @ 12.5K, today has 333K, Yes that is three hundred thirty three K miles. Engine has never been into.
My main tractor too, a 966 IH.
All on Dello
OBTW my New-To-Me truck, a F350 Crewcab 7.3 diesel, 4x4, Dello too!
NO Rotella, NO Penzoil, NO,NO,NO!!!!!!!
