Reading posts.

That's exactly what they are doing, responding to the OP.

If you left the settings alone, default in this new format is to indent responses directly below the post they're responded to. Except responses to the OP which aren't indented... Then once you get about 3 levels deep it runs out of space to indent.
It is? Mine indents and I haven't changed any settings.
You can check with Chris down below, but I believe the default setting is the "threaded" or indent view. I recall having to go in and uncheck that to get rid of that nonsense.

Yes, now with that reminder I think the default setting was indeed with that box checked. I think it was the only one pre-checked too for some reason. Thanks Rich for the reminder.

Chris has given us a setting on this new forum that allows it to work very similar to the old classic view with newest thread first. Someone replying to a old thread doesn’t bring that thread to the top.
So once again I have no need to skip over a thread where someone is giving advice on a thread so old the tractor has already been fixed because I never see the post. I also don’t have to put up with the drama some threads bring because one reply brings it to the top rather than putting it out of site out of mind buried on page 3.
John,
I refuse to respond to old threads, especially when the post is from a former YTer that is DEAD!
Please let the post RIP!
It is a free country so do what you want.

What really gets me is the mind set of some on here such as “I read that post once and have replied. Now by golly there can’t be anyone that could possibly have a better answer or solution than mine. So don’t show me this ever again” Then Classic View reinforced this by showing the post was read, and then it eventually walked right off the page. Above poster remained happy as a clam. Then beyond that, the member became so indoctrinated that they can now (right or wrong) clearly say “how could a forum operate any other way?” Just another 2 cents for the kitty.

There’s always those that will continue to feel that way and that is perfectly within their right…. What I can’t stand is when they start the martyr bullshitte . They threaten to leave the site because of… whatever doesn’t work the way they think it should. My question is, what drove them to learn to navigate the old site when they joined originally?

Sounds like that's right on the money.

Also on the money.

In reply to Fritz.. Exactly why we are here. I know it was probably “loss of revenue driven” at the time but if they would have said we are switching to Modern View that’s the only option they are turning off the Classic software they would have kept moving forward. If all YT ever had was Modern you are correct, they would have had to learn that. Funny they can certainly navigate this platform well enough to post complaints about it. I should stop joining in on these threads, I am just helping perpetuate it.

Some people aren't happy unless they're unhappy.

Nothing wrong with that. If people have something to add, that's great. You always have the option of skipping over them if you don't want to read them.
the free bubble up is helpful ,,. especially if it is over 20 yrs old ,, it seems the old gurus here were taught better to express the corrective ways to fix troubles ,,. and did not mind razin ' someone to get a fun rise out of them ... i spent a whole entertaining evening a while back on 20 yr. old posts ,,. we used to have a lot of fun on here ..
