Rebuild carb problem

Was trying to rebuild the old carburetor and this piece would not come out. Tried to use a screwdriver but the brass got all gnarled and then I just kept going after it thinking I would get it out. Then it made me mad and I wouldn't back down. ...But still have not been able to remove it. Tried a small tap to no avail. Any recommendations or should I just forget about it and throw this old carburetor in the trash?

Im wondering why you want it out. I just make sure passages like that are cleaned
out good and let them be ,if I can.

That said have you tried a little heat ? And I mean a LITTLE heat. Dont want to melt
it.

Good luck

It looks like you have wallowed out the metering part of the jet. My sources say to heat the top in an oven or bbq grill for a while. I'd use a small easy out on it after that. If you are REALLY careful, you could drill it out and chase the threads with a tap. Mine is a 10-32 thread, which means you could drill to about 9/64ths, but check that - I didn't have a chart to check the drill size. That brass jet is less than a 1/4 inch long, so be gentle. steve

Great suggestion and thanks for the pic. That give me some good perspective.

That jet is threaded in at an angle from the gasket surface. If you can't tell the angle, you will have a hard time drilling it out perfectly. I took a really fine drift punch to the edge of what was left of the slot in mine and it came loose. You might want to try that first, after heating it and cooling it. steve
