rebuild for pulling

I bought a 1943 john deere model A that needs complete rebuild. Block needs to be bored out due to light rust pits. What kind of mods can be done to engine for better performace? Trying to get an idea what I am going to do and what will work.

How much do you want to spend and will the tractor be used for anything else? M&W pistons will give you around 5 HP. If you shave the head for compression you may bump that up to 8-10 HP. Custom aluminum slugs will give you 15-20 HP. Cam and head work will compliment other mods and can give you 5-10 more. After that you need a crank, or a big bore power block. Tripple G works on smaller builds and knows two cylinders and is good to talk to. Murphy's Motor Service or Extreme Tractor Parts will do a big cube high end build for you.

Thanks for the info I will be doing alittle of both with it. I've got a lot of work to do before I get to the motor so I was just seeing what options there are. I don't want to get to crazy. The tractor has been sitting for a long time and rust is a big issue on it. The head will have to be milled to clean up the rust. Its mostly surface rust.
