That answer has a lot of variables. Price depends on what you consider a rebuilt engine. Do you want all new cylinder liners and pistons and all new everything? The parts listed in the upper left of this page under "tractor parts" would give you an idea of price, what I just saw was starting at $300 and going up to over $600 just for the parts. I have heard to have a person do the work for you could cost anywhere from $250 to $550. Is the higher priced person ripping you off? Not necessarily, that person may do a great job. I am sorry but I could not give a very precise $$ amount. If I had to say a number I would say between $900 and $1200. Also is the person rebuilding it going to have to tear tractor apart and put back together? Richard

the common shop price would be around 3,000.00

you can do it yourself from 800 to 1500. You can expect lots of wear. Use USA parts

Engine kit around 500
Grind crank for 100
Grind cam & Lifters for 100
Misc parts for another 100
Biggest factor is how much of an engine kit you desire.

after tearing this one appart, I found it needed a new block, I should have continued parting it out insted- I now have nearly 2k into it so far, doing all but some of the machining myself- and I am not impressed with the kits. Next project I will only buy what's broken. I was told this is a reasonable ammount, but around here another tractor would have cost less. Now that I am smarter- know this- check out and mike up EVERY part- before you even consider a rebuild- the block was a lucky find at $450- repairs to the old one could be more- there was cracks in the welds of old cracks- the governor was half missing, other half chewed up- Thanks Terry in Mich! Line boring a new block to the the poor crank that can't be machined any further- so that 'could have been' another 400 times 2, I had to braze up an old repair on the head- if that didn't work, another 4 c notes could have flew the coup, after a while, that could take all the fun out of a 4 month project at the wrong time of year.... next engine will be miked, soaked, magnafluxed and EVERYTHING priced and added up before dumping big bucks into it- good luck!

Bill, that"s a hard question to answer because we don"t know exactly what sort of wear or damage your going to get into. If you have a basically good running engine that just needs rings, valves & gaskets and your doing all the work, you can do it for a few hundred bucks. If you decide to go with all new parts and farm out the work your looking at several thousand dollars. My guess is your likely somewhere inbetween the two extremes.
I do recommend that you tear the engine down first, measure and inspect everything, then order parts/kits. You may save a lot of money by buying just the parts you need, or buying a kit that has a few extra parts but is priced overall lower than individual parts.
