Removing bit from rotohammer

I borrowed a Makita Rotohammer from a friend to lag down my metal shed to the concrete. I needed a 1/2" bit to match my quick bolts, so I carried the rotohammer into Tacoma Screw, and asked for a 1/2" bit, to fit the chuck. A lady behind the counter, went and brought a bit, inserted it in the chuck, wrote up the ticket, and I paid her. After using it on the project, I cant get the chuck to open, and release the bit. I haven't used the channellocks on it yet, but have tapped lightly on the chuck, hoping to get it to move. How do these things work? before I tear up a borrowed tool??

There are at least two different configurations of SDS bits, and they don't interchange. They WILL fit, diameter wise, but the problem comes with removal. The chuck needs to be partially dismantled to get one out; we had to take ours to the tool repair place who then showed us how to do it.

Did you put any oil or grease on it when it was put in? The bit should be well lubricated where it goes into the drill. I have a cheap one from HF and it came with a container of grease and it works great for what I paid for it! Maybe if it's dry you could hold it upside down and work some oil in around the bit shank.
