removing head

hey i just pulled the manifold, carb, rediator, air filter off my farmall A today. my plan is to remove the head next week when i get a chance. anyone have some suggestions
potential problems

no suggestions, just stick a putty knife between the head and block to separate from gasket. have cleaned and magnafluxed.

thanks im a little wary on takin the ignition off im not exactly a master electrician? i got the electic manual for the machine though and some gfriends so we"ll see. how did you lift the block off, cable from come along to rafters. (this is my first open engine project)

Don't neglect to have the head surfaced while it is in the shop. They will remove a small about of metal to assure the surface is flat. Last time I had heads surfaced the shop only took off .006" to make them true.

If you neglect to true the heads they can blow the new head gasket in short order.

Be sure to clean all the bolt threads and run a clean-out tap into the bolt holes. Debris on the threads or in the holes will alter the torque.

If you are using composition head gaskets, put them on dry. If you are using the old metal gaskets (the whole thing is metal not just a ring around the cylinder part) then use a gasket sealant like Copper Plate.

The head isn't too awful heavy. 40 lbs. at the most I'd say. If you ate your Wheaties, you can handle it. If you're a Cheerios guy, get a friend to help you lift.

after the head is off, be careful if you turn the motor over, the head holds the wet sleeves in, and if you do urn the engine over, the sleeves can walk up out of the block. you can put some washers and a nut on the headbolts to hold the sleeve down.
