Removing PTO Safety Shield

Ya I know but....

Just bought a King Kutter 6 foot Tiller and need to cut down the PTO shaft. How in the heck do you remove the Safety Shield.. It's locked to the shaft somehow and must be some trick to getting it off?

Thanks
Bob

It depends on the shaft.... but most I've seen lately have plastic tabs right at the collar. You push them in and then pull the tube off. If it's a metric shaft I'd just cut it to whatever length is needed anyway. I wouldn't bother taking the shield off.

I have a KK 6 ft mower and when I needed to cut the shaft, I just pulled the two sections apart, curt the ends off the safety shields and then cut the shafting. I never had to remove the entire plastic shield. Have you read the instruction manual? I believe it's discussed in there.

I watched with intrest this thread. I never could figure out how to remove one of those plastic ones either. The old metal ones i could usually figure out how to remove. I all but destroyed a plastic one once and still couldnt get it off. theres gotta be a trick there somewhere.
