Removing side panels from hood

I have a 53 UB but I would imagine this question would relate to about any of the letter series or maybe even others. I have tried to get the pin out of the hinge on my side panels for some time with no luck. I know they crimp the end to keep it from coming out so I adressed that but I still can't get it to budge. My side panels both hinge fine so it is stuck in the hood loops. I haven't tried heat yet but I have soaked them with "PB Blaster" for several weeks to no avail. I just figured maybe some of you more experienced guys had a trick or an easy solution for this. Thanks

I have had decent luck taking a small screwdriver or prying device and opening up the hinge pieces a little bit on both the hood and the side panel. It take some patience and lots of PB

The few times I have done this its taken penetrating oil, heat, tapping with hammer, and lots of banging on a good punch. (You know with tapping and banging you start out gentle and work up.)

Heat. That's the best thing that I have found. I heat the joints & take a small punch & drive the rod out the other end a bit. Then I weld a nut on the end to where I can twist & pull the rod out. They can be the dickens at times. Hope this helps!
