Replacement seat for 961

OH - 961

Member
I have a 961 with the Resto Ride seat on it which I don't think is repairable. There seems to be a source for the rubber gizmos , but mine has one of the flat springs broken where the support rods connect to the base. These are made of spring steel, so welding is probably out of the question - it will just break again along the weld. If anyone knows where to get those springs, I would sure like to know.

I have been looking for a comfortable suspension seat to ease the strain on my old back, but all the ones I have looked at are much taller than the original, plus most of them don't flip up so you can stand up to drive.

I have looked until I am cross-eyed at sources for seats with no luck. Does someone have experience with replacing one of these seats and with what?

Myron- These are the various parts of the Rest-O-
Ride seat. The rubber torsion springs and the
bushings and pins are available from several
sources. I believe the part on yours that is
broken are the curved pieces that are riveted to
the flat base (correct?) and you may be right
about trying to repair that. It would be good to
try to fix the original seat as it keeps the
tractor more original and it has some nice
features like the flip-up seat pan.
Try calling several of the salvage yards that
specialize in Ford tractors like Arthur's tractors
or Long Lane tractors. They might have a good
part you can use. -Will

i'd at least try to fix it or get a spare part before repalcing it. if i did replace it.. hit a farm store and get a seat with a back and arm rests. many times 100-150$ will get you a nice one. many have a bottom plate bolt slot pattern that fits your ford just fine.

Used but rebuildable Rest-O-Ride seats are a dime a dozen. Though you probably cannot successfully repair the broken part on yours, it should be little problem finding another to rebuild.

Be advised that properly rebuilding a Rest-O-Ride seat is time consuming and expensive.

Here goes, I'll try to reply to all of you in one post:

Will,
you are absolutely correct that it is one of the flat springs (right side) that is broken. I guess I'll try some of the salvage yards to see if I can find one.

Keith,
I sent an email, let me know what you have.

souNdguy,
I'll try to find parts for te Rest-O-Ride, since all of the seats I have found are either just a pan, or if on a base it is too tall and doesn't flip up.

Dean,
Guess I'm at the point of trying to fix it. The cost of a replacement seat can get pretty high also, and nothing seems to be suitable.

If it is some help to you, here is an exploded view
of the parts involved in the seat assembly. The old
roll pins can be a bear to remove, requires a flat
punch of the correct size. Otherwise, it's fairly
straightforward, just takes time and money as Dean

If it is broken close to where it fastens to he main base, Weld it. Have been putting my 220 lb body on a welded one. Been 4 years

Wayne,
Usually tempered steel either breaks the weld or more commonly breaks right nest to the repair.

Did you use some special rod to weld yours? Stainless or 7018 come to mind as possibilities.

Myron

Thanks, Wayne
I may give it a try but will probably use 7018 rod. I absolutely can [i:0a098d8970]never[/i:0a098d8970] get anything to stick with 6013 rod.

Oops - just noticed you said [u:0a098d8970]7013[/u:0a098d8970] - not something I am familiar with.
