Replacing rails

I need to replace the rails on an International TD8. We plan to reuse the pads.
I have access to a plasma cutter and a torch to cut the old pad bolts off, Which tool will work better?
We plan to drive the dozer off the old rails and onto the new, moving the pads as we go.

although plasmas are by far quicker, most have a standard head that is too large to allow you to cut the bolt smooth without damage to the pad. my welding shop has replaced a lot, and we use a torch. a standard tip will work, but a scarfing tip is much better. it has a slight curve which allows you to lay the tip right on the pad and cut the bolthead without damaging the pad.

If you have never done this lots of small tricks that will make it easier. Get the back of the pads CLEAN or they won,t stay tight. Cut UNDER the rail that way no chance of dammage to the
pad. With the td8 the bolts are so small why don,t you just take a good 3/4 or inch impack
and try to unbolt the bolts. 6 point undersize scokets are avl if the heads are worn. Have you priced the bolts , you man try and remove them..
