Repowering a Wards'

My grandfather gave me his early 90's Montgomery Wards a few years ago, the motor is a Briggs and Stratton 12 horse power plant. It has sufficent power but is starting to smoke a lot. Is there a v-twin motor that is somewhat easy to put in the tractor without to much complication. just wondering what some could be. the only motor i can think of would be a b/s 18 horse v-twin

thnaks for your time

Wards had tractors from more than one original manufacturer back then. Small Engine Warehouse would be your best bet for a replacement engine.

I have a Wards Squire tractor. Don't know the age but the front axle is attached to the oil pan on the tractor. Would make it hard to change the engine.

My Wards tractor was made in 1971 and has the 14hp B&S engine. The frame is bolted to the oil pan as mentioned. My engine model is 320424
type 0121-01. My manual has a 12 hp engine listed model number 300424 type 0121-01. You could also rebuild the old engine.

Smallenginewarehouse may have a replacement engine. Hal

Might you have a clearance problem when trying to fit the twin cylinder engine in that space? Better look into that first.

Hi westviewfarm, since you say it's a early 90's tractor you maybe be able to get an older B&S opposed twin to bolt in I think they were 14 to 16 hp and as others have posted check small engine warehouse's replacement engine page
