Just reclaimed what i believe to be a 1946 2N from the pasture field. It ran 15 years ago. An attempt was made to overhaul it at that time, but when put back together it was so tight it wouldn't turn over. So it was pushed aside in the pasture and forgotten till now. My only concern is that it has been sitting with no spark plugs. Obviously condensate and moisture has gotten into the motor but i am not a mechanic. So i was wondering if it would be worth fixing or would there be more money wrapped up in it than what its worth. But everything seems solid, it does have the fenders and front end loader and rear blade. Any advise and opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

I posted on the Tractor Talk forum this same message and I know it will cost me more than its worth since i am not familiar with doing the engine work myself. Wondering if anyone could use a solid tractor for parts, id hate to see it go to waste. I would love to see it live on and help someone else finish their restoration.

What do YA got to loose?

Like this:

My 9N is a sett]N on the wood floor of my AMISH barn.

I needs some air circulation UNDER the floor. WHY" To keeps the timbers dry, naturally.

Thherefore, I proclaimed that "grand-granddy ground hog and His bride could stay! But their offspring(provided thingies work) have to GO!

Now I have a lotta of smaller critters (CHIPmonks) that can worry a big woodchuck to death.

So MORALS TO THE STORY: I aint seen hide or hare to the "under barn situation".

No further action necessary!!!!!!!!! At least at this time. Let YA know by LABOR DAY.

First thing I would do is take the head off and look in the cylinders, I just done the same thing with the one I just got, 1 spark plug missing , all cylinders were very clean.

I would then make a decision of what to do, don't give up to quick , I got my engine un-stuck after 26 years not running, just waiting for my parts to arrive and see if I can get it going.

As I said in your other post I had an 8N that when O got it had the oil drain plug out but it would still spin over. Just because the plugs are out you never know if it is all that bad inside the engine. One like that with a loader and the other things is well worth a $500 gamble. Shoot if both rears are as good as that one you have $500 in rims and tires at the very least. To me but then I do know how to fix most any tractor it is worth $500-1000 as it sits. Your location is a very big part of things. Sort of like a couple weeks ago I had a guy call me about a tractor he has. It has not run for 1.5 years and it took me less then 20 minutes to have it running

I don't mean to sound rude but what are you talking about?
I read your posts on here all the time and its absolute nonsense...
Maybe your trying to be funny and I don't get it or something? anyhow...just curious to your never ending ramblings about nothing....

Somebody once told John of PA that he was funny. They were just being sarcastic, but John actually believed them. Ever since he has been trying to be our resident stand-up comic. John, don"t give up your day job!

I guess it will not hurt to pull the head and check it out.I may be surprised. I have the ability to work on it I just do not have the experience. I will have to do it all from a book, step by step. Thats how you learn though.

I reclaimed an 8n that looked just as bad, the engine was totally stuck and ended up driving several of the pistons out. Complete engine rebuild (first one for me) Complete tear down and bearing replacement in transmission. Complete rebuild of hyd system.

I have been a mechanic all my working life, this was the first traactor or engine that I had completely apart. It kept me busy all one winter and I learned a lot. It is the challenge and the learning process that I like.
Go for it and have fun!

sed to be a fellow on here with handle Dunk......died last year, miss him.........but he & John seemed to understand each other and communicate. I still don't comprehend.....some more cryptic that that last one, for sure!

Hey Stan, I generally agree with and appreciate your posts but this one I gotta take issue with.
One of my biggest gripes about new users of these tractors is that they all too frequently rip the heads off the engines and then they can no longer do much in the way of diagnostics on the engine ie, compression test, etc.
Not much to be gained by pulling the head really other than to look at how much ring ridge there is or see how much rust there is in the bore. That might be helpful but a lot can be determined with the head on.
I always recommend they soak the cylinders in MMO or ATF for a week or two and try turning it over first before tearing the head off.
All too often once the head is off they start tearing the engine down completely and the next thing you know it's a full rebuild.
Too many of these engines get rebuilt when there's years of life left in them.

I like John's posts.
Don't always understand them but hey, lots of stuff I don't understand (John Roberts??)
Speaking of Dunk, I wonder why he doesn't have an entry on the memorial page here at YT.

Woodchucks and Chipmonks,, should be good company for your "Gray Gopher"

As you stated that it would cost more to fix than what it would be worth just part it out or sell it whole, extra money for other projects. Mark Z

My ex-wife of a generation kept thinking and saying the same thing. I am not only in great health, but look'N wonderful, now.
