I found a New Holland rock crusher on a farm near me. It is on steel wheels with a wood frame and is falling apart. It is belt powered. Does anyone know anything about such a beast?

I don't know about that one but have been a crusher operator and done some repair. I think something like that would just have deposited the stone on the road under it and moved along. Wonder if it ate some stonewalls in the area? Would be a good working display at a show. Have you been to the Hudson-Mohawk gas up in Schoharie? They have a stationary unit and at one time ran it with a crossmotor Case. Nice show-this year June 11-12 & 18-19. I'm in NY Catskill Mts Good Luck Steve

Google "Western Minnesota Steam Threshers" at Rollag, MN. Their site may show their setup...operating steam shovel and a portable rock crusher.

I think that was one of the products that got New Holland Machine Company started. A few have survived around here.

Not sure on a New Holland but I have had some experience with a rock crusher. I operated one at the old Douglas County Historical Steam and Gas Festival in Arcola, IL. It was belt drive and set on a small steel frame with steel wheels. The thing weighed a ton and was a serious piece of equipment. You would run it at about half throttle and would put two to three inch boulders in the top and it would send a pulverized dust out the bottom. This one was used to pulverize limestone to agriculture use. They are fun to operate...that is for about 10 minutes or so.
