Rolling Hay on Shares

My neighbor ran the guy who has been renting his farm off and has hinted that he wants my to put up his 10 acres of hay. I have ask other farmers the going rate (on shares) and most have advised to put it up for 1/2 if he fertilizes and 2/3 if he does not fertilize. I have got a feeling he is going to want 1/2 if he fertilizes or not. The hay is next to my hay fields and I do not have to load and unload and pull equipment around the countryside. Can I come out at 1/2 shares? What is the going rates in other places? Thanks for any advise on this.

If he "ran the other guy off", perhaps he'd be a good fellow to avoid getting entangled with???

I live 4 miles from Matt and graduated from high school with his father in 1963. They are great people ! Like Matt told the girls, it"s a show, Some of the show is is real and some of it is hokie. They will buck bales in one of the show"s coming up. Matt is buying about 100 acres, but his dad"s family owns about 1700 acres and rents the rest. Matt farms with his dad but works out with a local contractor doing home repairs when it"s not farming season. His not an actor but has a great personality. The reason most of the filming was not done on his dads farm was because his aunt was afaired that someone would get hurt and it would cause some trouble,

The first 800 acres, the grandpa bought was in the 1947 flood by a john boat and most had to be cleared up to even farm it.

This family are a hard working people and their equipment is cherry from the 1964 4020, 8410T and 9750 combine. We are proud of this boy, not many around like him ! He in St. Louis the show is on CW11, 8:00 pm, Wednesday nights.

Some of this may seem out of order as I was trying to answer questions from the earlier post. ps: They have over 1000 acres under seep water as the mississippi& mo rivers are high.

That's the first thing that came to my mind too. I don't do shares. I do cash, by the hour. If you don't like it, get someone else.
There'd be damn little hay I'd do here for 75% never mind 50%, fertilized. Not, and I don't want to go near it. If you can't get a price for it to cover your work, you might as well let him lose the money as you.
Round bales are worth 20-30 bucks around here and it doesn't much matter the size. people won't pay more for a big bale.... Square bales are anywhere from a 1.50 to 3.00 bucks. Hay is just a money loser here.
Mabey different elsewhere, but here it's not worth it. Hay is just sold as a surplus here to get it out ofthe way.
