Rookie question

I keep reading that the fuel should be shut off when not in use. My 41 9N has a valve at the sediment bowl but just has reserve and main option. Doesn't say anything in my original owners manual about a shutoff. Great website. Have been reading for 2 weeks and learning a lot

If you turn the valve handle on the sediment bowl all the way in (clockwise). That shuts the gas off. It really is a good idea to do that every time the tractor is shut down for more that a few minutes due to the fact that gravity is working hard to get that gas into your crankcase where it should not be.

My guess is that if you turn it clockwise until it stops, you will shut it off.

You can test this by pulling the drain plug on the bottom of the carb. A momentary steady stream should come out (about 5 minutes worth of idle time on the engine) before running out.

Yes, you should shut the valve off when not in use.

Hi New Bees , Another great site to visit is only Fords . Check out the ntractor (& add the word club to it) site . I visit both sites for great help & adding comments . Hope to see you there also .Njoy your little Fords & be careful . God bless, Ken

Hey Ken
just got back from the "club" what a neet place also, I found a wiring diagram that is the best ,it showed me a wire that must have burned off the resistor at the gone bottom lug wellll time to go back to the barn
Thanks again Glen from Wash

Not sur if it has beens said clearly or not.

Turn knob Clockwise all the way to close the valve and shut the fuel flow off.

Normal operation is 3 to 6 full turns (CCW) open.

Reserve is fully turned open (CCW).

The normal operation position opens a stand pipe in the fuel tank. This stand pipe is ~ 1" off the bottom of the tank so it does not suck in any sediment. If you run out of fuel in the back 40... then you can access the last 1" of fuel in the tank by opening all the wat to the reserve point.

Look like this? This is the VERY early 9N valve and sediment bowl assembly. Put the selector in the middle like this pic shows, and it shuts the fuel off. Any yes, you should shut the fuel off every time you stop the tractor for the day.

Mr. Hagen;
Yep, as Dan says, turn it to the middle, handle down, like in the pic. turns the fuel off. Take good care of that sed. bowl, shut off and it should last for another 60 odd yrs. Those are rare, and hard to find. They are of the ball-cock valve type. Great fuel valves!!!
