Rotary rake technique

Got a Kuhn rotary rake (great dealership nearby). Raking out was no problem as it made
beautifully formed, fluffy windrows. However, when I went the other way to flip the rows in
and merge some of the smaller ones, the results weren't so pretty: like it was teddered. Basically had to rerake it before baling with many more trips around the field, and still left more grass than I should have on the ground. What's the neatest way to flip a windrow with this rake? Where's the best spot to position the windrow: towards the outside of the rotor or nearer to the curtain?

You need to adjust the curtain according to the amount of hay on the ground. Sounds like the curtain is too high off the ground or too far from the rotor.
I have had one of these rakes for 5 years now and do not have this kind of problem.
But you do have to watch where the curtain is positioned to "catch" the hay.
