rotary screen

Has anyone converted a JD 55 square back to a rotary screen. Some dummy(me) forgot to fold down the radiator screen to fit in the shed and manglef it pretty bad. I know where there is a 3300 parts machine but don't know how much of a job it would be.

I think the JD rotary screens are belt driven. Gleaner (who pioneered the idea) works on suction through the radiator. You"d need to fab some sheet metal to make all four sides tight.

There are rotary screens available online, maybe with kits. If you do a good job of installing and sealing the surround, both you and the engine will love it.

We had a neighbor when I was a kid who put a Gleaner rotary screen on his Massey 92 combine. I think they would work on anything you can mount them on and since they have been out since the late 60s you should be able to find a used one in a salvage yard. You might want to paint it green though.

Done this a couple of times on 55's. Best/easiest
are from Gleaners. Late A's or C's. A little metal
fabrication and they slide right on. Engine runs
cooler too.

I did my 95 a few years ago and it makes a big difference in how she runs. This one came off an 815IH and the hardest part is getting the bolts out on the grain tank side of the screen to the radiator. I allso moved the air cleaner and put the inlet under the hood. I hope this is what your looking for. Bandit

I put one off a New Holland on my 105. Worked great in soybeans but it let too many silks in when I was doing corn. The 105 barely had enough air pull to turn it so as the radiator became more plugged the screen turned slower until it barely turned. I painted a yellow stripe on the screen so I could watch it in the mirror. When it turned slow I knew it was time to clean the rad. Jim

We did a roundback 55 last year. Get a rotary screen from a Gleaner K. It is the perfect size. Will spin even at an idle. Very easy to do. Paint it green and it looks like it is supposed to be there.

We changed several early 3300-4400 Deere machines and we liked the screens from the IH 205 machines(if I remember right).I am thinking about changing my 55 as well because of bean fines.
