Roundup and cookies?

I have been messing around with the on demand pump, on my 16 gallon sprayer, and finally got it working. I had about 3 gallons of last years Roundup, still in it, and took it to the orchard, and sprayed it on the fescue, that is hell bent on taking over. After putting things away for the night, I came in for a cup of coffee, and some toll house cookies I had baked last night. After eating 3 cookies, it dawned on me, that I had not washed my hands, after getting Roundup all over them. I reckon this will be a test, to see the effects of roundup on people.

When I was working as commercial sprayer, we used to get R U in 100 gallon tanks. Got one that we could not get to pump out. The experienced sprayer guy took the cover off and found the tube from the pump to the bottom of the tank had come off. He rolled up his sleeve reached into the tank and refastened the tube to the pump. I watched in amazement while he did this. He went and washed up good and said it's only Roundup, won't hurt you. Far as I know he still has 2 arms

One of the ingredients of agent orange was 2,4-D but that was the better part of the bad mix.

Glyphosate (round-up) and 2,4-D have a relatively low toxicity to humans, even more so in diluted form and/or with minor contact/exposure.

I must have been RR, its 9:15, and I still feel fine. I have a loaf of meatloaf in the oven and am awaiting its demise anxiously.

I read once that caffeine is more toxic than roundup....

Most herbicides are considered low or moderately toxic. All chemicals have a half-life in the environment. Half-life is defined as the amount of time it takes to biodegrade one half of the original amount. Herbicides are broken down by sunlight and microbial activity in the soil.

All chemicals are assigned Lethal Dose (LD 50) numerical values through certain testing procedures. What LD 50 means is the dose or amount of a pesticide which can kill 50% of the test animals when eaten or absorbed through the skin. LD50 is expressed in milligrams of chemical per kilogram of body weight of the test animal (mg/kg). The lower the LD50 the more acutely toxic the chemical.

Chemical Name LD50 Half Life
Gasoline 19 - - -
Caffeine 190 - - -
2,4-D 300 to 1,000 7 to 28 days
Aspirin 1240 - - -
Banvel 1700 5 months
Table Salt 3320 - - -
Telar/Glean 5545 3 months
Roundup 5600 7.5 days
Tordon 8200 5 months/pint

Nope, agent orange had no Glyphosate (Roundup) in it
Agent orange had 2-4-5-T in it which contained Dioxin. Dioxin is what made Agent orange such bad stuff.

Glyphosate (Roundup) is tough on most plants, but very gentle on animals including human animals.

Studies in England have shown Glyphosate (The active ingredient in Roundup) is a very gentle to humans chemo therapy drug to fight some types of cancer.

OK guys, it's safe.......as far as we know. Look at all the other safe chemicals that they didn't find out for 20-30 years that could cause cancer! The bad part is it's not only us that may be affected. It could be our kids or grand kids. I don't know for sure that Round Up is safe or not. I don't trust the chemicals companies, out for a profit (corporate greed) as far as a dead man can throw em. I do know that a local family that farms has had 3 of 6 children treated for cancer (wife's side of the family). While I use a little Round Up I don't believe for one millisecond that it's 100% safe. So go ahead an yuk it up! It may well wind up being funny. Then if could be a tragedy too. Are you willing to risk your kids or grand kids????? You poison yourself I have no sympathy. I will however be very sorry if your kids or grand kids get messed over by you. Do a little internet research on all the "safe" products no longer in production because they ain't safe! You don't trust companies because of greed and you don't trust the government but you trust both if it puts money in your pocket! Guess what? That's called GREED!

Agent orange was ordered to be produced by the govt. they were told it wasn't very healthy, but the folks behind desks figured it only gets sprayed on the enemy so no big deal. They never figured in it has to be made somewhere by people, and our solders would be walking through it also.... Bad deal. One part of agent orange was to defoliate the jungles and crops quickly. The other part was to have a lasting effect to keep stuff from growing back for a while. So it was a combo of two separate herbicides.

It was a combination of two products, like a peanut butter n jelly sandwich has peanut butter and grape jelly.

Some people get deathly Sick from peanut allergies. They need to avoid peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches!

But they shouldn't be afraid of eating grape jelly.

Likewise, we humans need to stay away from the dioxins that are in the one part of agent orange - the 2,4,5-T. It can't hardly be made without dioxins forming in it. They are really bad. Fortunately this 2,4,5-T has been banned now for some time.

But the other part, the 2,4-D has need very heavily tested many times over, and appears to be pretty safe to humans. It does not form any dioxins while it is made. It is totally different than the other part of agent orange. It is the grape jelly part.

2,4-D has been tested and observed for a long time now, and appears to be fairly safe to humans and mammals. It is not at all related to the bad part of agent orange.

Roundup also has been tested quite a bit, and appears safer and breaks down faster than most any other weed killer. Often times the soap - the additives that make it stick to leaves and break down wax on the leaves so it can soak into the plant - test out as more dangerous than the actual Roundup does.

If we use weed killers, those 2 are so,e of the safest and most studied around. Some folks have made up quite an Internet story to the contrary, unfortunately those stories have gained a lot of traction.

About 30 years ago, I had a patch of blackberries along the driveway that I wanted to get rid of. So before going to work on one fine summer day, I sprayed them with Roundup. Got home that night, and there was a nice big bowl of blackberries on the table. Seems that the babysitter had taken the 3 kids out and picked them, of course eating plenty along the way.

I called the Poison Control Center, and they hooked me up with someone at Monsanto. They said their testing had found no toxicity in animals or humans, and told of a 3 year old girl in Nebraska who had drank about a half cup of the 41% concentrate, with no ill effect. And my kids all turned out fine.

Sure hated to throw away that bowl of berries- it had all the makins of a good pie.

Not so sure about that, I've seen a lot of women that must have swallowed a watermelon seed, their bellies get really big. Chris

Sure I trust Monsanto. Just like I trust the government. And about as much as I trust the colleges that get donations from Monsanto. I didn't say it wasn't pretty safe. I said 1 I don't trust them and 2 it could be 20-30 years before we know for sure. Heck they gave women who swallowed water melon seeds a morning sickness pill that had been tested only to see kids born without arms and legs. It was tested by both the FDA and the company that made it. It took years before it was taken off the market.

One of the worst offenders is the insecticide Metasystox (The smell is enough to put you off using it actually) I know of a guy that was spraying his apple trees for aphids using that stuff with a knapsack sprayer. He came home after work and said to his wife "I must go and have a sit down I don't feel too good" She went into the kitchen to make some tea then went back in to see how her husband was feeling and he was dead! Apparently One of the straps on his sprayer had rubbed so hard onto the guys shoulder it had broken the skin and some of the chemical had gone into his bloodstream. After hearing that tale I flatly refused to use that horrible stuff ever again.

There are thousands upon thousands of researchers who spend millions upon millions of dollars supplied by anti-technology special interest groups that have yet to find glyphosate to be harmful. Same as with GMO's. The best they can do is to make false and misleading allegations, innuendo, and plain ol' lies. If there was ANY creedence to their claims, it would be plastered all over ever abundant publication on the face of the earth.

Sometimes you just have to look at what evidence ISN'T there.....

I have a Masters in agricultural science. Working on a phd. While working on my degree(s) I've been involved in research programs funded by chemical companies, seed companies, and by an equal number funded by groups such as Greenpeace. The chemical companies ask us to do things on a level playing field with no preconceived notions as to results. Several of the "anti's" give us the final results they want and ask us to reverse engineer the study to validate their desired results. Point being, they don't care so much about facts as they do their agenda.

Again, if there was FACTUAL information that indicated high risk, it would be made abundantly clear by this point in history. You surely don't think the "anti's" would sit on information like that if there was any such thing...?

In nam they told us. It will kill bugs, plants and trees. But it won't hurt you.Years later it is hurting a bunch of us.

Did it make the cookies taste better.

Roundup has been out for over 30 years. I can remember when it first came out, you were to use 2QT to the acre for control of Quack grass for up to 3 years.
I am not saying I advocate miss use of any chemical. I have had Sutan get splashed in my eyes once, just a drop from moving a barrel to get around it better. Was supposed to go blind from the talk. I still see fine. Like I said I don't advocate miss use of chemicals though.

"No ill effects." How does anyone know?

Say someone gets cancer. Is it because they sucked in Roundup vapors for 30 years on the farm? Is it because they had some defect at birth that would've normally killed them as an infant, but modern medicine kept them alive?

No way to prove it one way or the other...

That said, if we don't use chemicals what do we do? You gonna go out and pull weeds on a quarter-section of corn all summer long? Cultivating doesn't get the weeds that grow close to the plants, and causes erosion.

Not sure why you do that. However I am curious, do you drink hot as coffee or cold even on ice??Seems it would be an expensive drink,of course some coffee is very costly at starbucks. I will stick with folgers but to each his own.

I heard a fitting definition of "GREED" the other day. It's the battle cry of idiots.

I don't think I'd be worried about getting my affairs in order from it. lol
How many kids have played on the sidewalk after somebody sprayed the weeds in the cracks?
