Royse, WW2N Dollar bill

Old 8 Guy

First, thanks to everyone for the input! I believe that I"ll be using 5/16 carriage bolts. All the other ways are either unavailable to me, or more trouble than they would be worth.

Thanks, Royse, for bringing up the primer paint and humidity issue. I"ll be disassembling and painting first. These rivets won"t let me keep my goal of keeping every last item original to the period.

Hope I don"t run into anything else I have to change.

I think other then press it in a guy is best off with a carriage bolt. It will look fine. To make it look like a rivet just take a file and file off any ID markers off the head. I have done this a few times ant you cant tell unless you look on back of fender. You will be pleased with it. I always wonder why it only had the one rivet not 3 or just all carriage bolts? Lets see pictures when ya get it together.

You might try the ribbed carriage bolts to avoid
the need for square holes. Something like these: Ribbed

A bit more affordable source:

McMaster

You can get them a lot of places and in lesser quantities.
I was just showing an example.
But if you needed 100 of them, Grainger was $32.05 per 100.
McMaster $11.93 per 25 = $47.72 per 100 for pictured size.
Which may not even be the right size, just an example! :)

I thought you got a exact head shape, or something always a learning process here thanks to you and others. If it was Made USA I always happy to hear, all the bolts are china now. With the dog treats killing pets I bet a graded bolt is soft no carbon. Thanks
