We got a 1947 RTU we've been restoring lately the left brake drags when I first take it out of the shed. After driving it around it does'nt seem to drag as bad. What do the 3 hollow bolts do on the outside of the housing? Are they some type of adjusting bolt? My operators manual is for a later R.There is not much free travel on the pedal but there is some braking. Thanks Jeff

Probably if the left brake is dragging, your axle seals are bad and the lining is just oily enough to be sticky. The early R brakes aren't much to brag about even when they are in good condition.

To get to those brakes you have to pull the axle housing off the transmission. If you try this, be sure to block the tractor up well so it can't turn over and make provision to support the axle housing with a chain hoist or cherry picker because it is more weight than you probably want to lift.
