After two days in the soak can, and about 4 1/2 hrs, of scrapeing,cleaning out the passages, and using the dremal brush on it, I was able to extract the jets, (Idle jet needed to be drilled out and new threds run in it),.....
No more runnin' off at the mouth......this is where I'm at with the carb NOW!!

I actually like doing this kind of thing!!! Just me, the carbs, and the poop kickin' music, in the carb shack!!! 8)

Wow Gary. What a mess. I am amazed that you can save this. I can't even get my squeaky clean 580 to run right. Good Job!

i agree with the other poster.. a 5g bucket for cast iron carbs for electrolysis would be a good setup.

couldn't put those repop zinc /allow / plated or aluminum ones in it or they may disappear though.. :)

but for straight CI

(quoted from post at 05:14:52 12/03/12) Have you ever gotten a carb that you could not fix?
b:9ca2c8ab35][i:9ca2c8ab35]

Well, John;
I've had a couple come to me with large cracks in the bowls, and about three with cracked/broken throttle bodies. I even had one that had a 1/2" hole drilled through the throttle body for SOME reason,.....but that one I fixed and am now using it for my back-up carb. Still runs good, after three yrs.!!!
Most of the cracks can/have been fixed, for the bowl cracks, but take a long time to get those fixes to stop leaking. I just keep at them until I get them fixed, and sell them for low cost backup's, with NO guarenty, on how long they will last.
Throttle body cracks or breaks, are a dif. story.....most cannot be fixed by me. I don't have the time or equipt., to keep up with the good carbs, and still mess with the broken ones!!!
Usually, easier, and faster to just use, replacement parts, and move on!!!! :lol:
