I have seen many R's in the 3500 lb class and have never seen a Z down there. Can you get a Z down to 3500 without doing much? If not where did they put all that extra weight.

The rearend's are differnent. I have a stock 48 ZTU w/ sheetmetal wheels not the cast centers, fenders, belt pulley ,electric start, It weighs 3700. We have a puller that's about 3,050lb no driver it has 16.9X38 rears.

I have a '37 with the cast wheels on the front & 12.5 x 38 tires on pressed steel on the back. I have it stripped down, no side shields, no electrics, platform removed, pretty much bare. It weighs in at 3570# with me on it. I guess I could change out the front wheels & loose about 45# & get it under 3500#. Can't imagine the loosing weight will happen!

The r rear is a lot lighter than a z is, the z has bull pinioms and the r does not. Put a za engine in the r and you will have more weight to add for traction and balance.
