saved from the scrapman

I just got my other (second) 400 diesel today. This ones a wide front, and everything I can think of is still there. The original ether injection up by the dash (that is what it is isn't it?) shutters on the radiator, steps on the three point, lights and the engine primer up on the dash. It's not in perfect shape, needs paint, but all the tins are straight accept for the missing left fender. The drawbar has less wear than my brothers 2009 new holland. According to the hour meter it has 2250 hours. Seems to have an air leek somewhere in the fuel system as when I try to start it I just get a little smoke. Then tried pull starting it with my diesel pickup and same verdict, sure got a good workout for the truck though! Loaded tires and wheel weights. Will post pictures later

There is something about the pumps(diesal) on these, when they have sat,you need to talk to someone that knows what to do,I just dont remember, but something freezes up.You dont want to hurt the pump

Theres a little cover on the side of the pump and in there is a small pump if you will. It will freeze up and by pulling it or starting it can break the shaft in there and it will not run just blows smoke and the cover on top of the pump take that off cause that lever will gum up and needs to be cleaned up

On the injection pump side by the fuel tank is the secondary fuel filter, lift the hood and take out the 7/16 headed plug on top, crank the motor, fuel should come out. This tells you the transfer pump on the injection pump is working. Do the same thing on the filter in front of the cylinder head. On the injection pump, near the top, behind the cover held on with 2 bolts, is a lever pointing down with a rod and clip in it. It pivots at the top and the rod should move forward and back at the bottom. They can stick if the tractor sets too long, I have usually been able to free them up with a pair of pliers. If it moves ok get on your knees and look up in the back of the opening, you should see a gear with teeth, it should turn when the motor is cranked. If it doesn"t turn take the injection pump off the tractor, and remove the cover on the bottom of the injection pump. There may be a gear broken off the quill shaft that will fall out. The rest of the shaft is held in by a bolt on the motor side of the injection pump. Let us know what works and what doesn"t and we can advise.
