Sears Tractor Shattered. Need HELP!!!!!!!!

I have the worst news about my 1960s Sears Custom 7. (no longer a 7hp now a 16hp)
I had put over 340lbs of old cast weights on the front end to keep it down then to have better traction for plowing I put on 2 70lb wheel weights then over that I put on duel 12" V tread trencher tires.
I had never seen that old tractor pull so good, I made 2 rounds around the field polling a 4 shank 4 disk plow about 6" deep, then I heard the worst sound ever, it was like a cracking, snapping, crunching noise and the back left corner dropped.
I quickly shut it off and looked just to see that I completely shattered the left hub:(

If any body has 2 hubs they would like to sell email me at [email protected] I need a five bolt patter (old hub was 3 bolt but I won't to upgrade to a five)
with a 1" bore with key shaft

Thanks in advance

I think you need to fab the new hubs from steel. As far as the other "help" you've recieved, they might not overload a tractor that should have went for scrap, but they can't compose a coherent sentence either. Duh indeed.

Guess you found weak link...... Could be worse, like axle or internals. You realize now that you do not have strong enough tractor for what you are trying to do. Don't get hurt trying it again.

Well, gee, why do you think they put 2 or 3 axles under those heavy dump trucks!? Is it because they have heavy frames, and heavy bodies, and heavy wheels, and they carry heavy loads?

You sent a boy out to do a man's job, and the boy couldn't handle it! Too much for that light-weight tractor, which incidentally was designed to mow yer lawn grass, not to plow furrows!
You'd best go out and buy a tractor that was built to plow the earth, because yer wasting yer time with anything like that one!

Would you be better off with a self powered tiller ? Adding all that weight is a bad idea.

I agree that a bigger tractor would be a good idea, I admire your resourcefulness, and optimism. I think a tow along tiller would also reduce your wheelie problem.

I do agree that you were very resourceful with what you had. Fab up some steel like they said and try it again. Ya live ya learn. Why do people in this site have to be so damn mean?

Hey, I have a tractor, it is a Farmall M but it needs a clutch and a carburetor.
This garden tractor is my pride and joy, I worked on it for weeks getting the duels and wheel weights put on. I do every thing were if it breaks I ether make a new part to fit or buy a used one and weld some plate steal to it and make it stronger.
This is the Garden Tractor part of the list and I thought that every one in there time has made there own custom Garden Tractor.

I was hoping that some one on this list would have a hub I could buy but I didn't know I was going to be chewed out.

Thanks

There were Wheel Horse models that used a hub like you need with the standard five bolt on 4 1/2 inch pattern. The bigger Sears tractor with that same rear end would have had stronger hubs as well, so you have some options.

I like the idea of a piece of 1/2 inch flat steel laser-cut round with the bolt holes drilled and a piece of one inch ID thickwall tubing welded to it. You could have them built, the set screw holes drilled and tapped, and the keyway cut at a good machine shop. See what breaks next. Pricey but fun, huh?

I would love to make some custom hubs, I just don't have the equipment to build them and also there are no shops around to do it for me.
I have found some Bolens 5 lug patter on eBay and they look really heavy duty and if there not I'll weld some steal to the back and stiffen them up

There is also a local junk yard and I have heard that they have a hole big pile of garden tractors, so I'm going to go down there and see if I can get some there and save on shipping.

Thanks for you help and info.

I believe those Bolens hubs are cast iron. Welding might be chancy, and they will be stouter than your transaxle without adding anything.

I need a pair of the Wheel Horse hubs if you come upon a pair. I need the one inch axle, keyed with set screws type.

I have an older Tecumseh 2233 transaxle that needs the hogged-out old hubs replaced. Axles look good on it. One hub looks like a Bolens (turquoise) and one looks like a Wheel Horse (orange-red). I want a matched set of Wheel Horse hubs. If I find hubs, then I will be looking for a JD 110/112/200 series frame, engine, etc.

Am I laughing?
I don't have my tractor going and I definitely don't have the money to go out and buy a tractor.
The Garden needed plowed, I wasn't going to do it with a hoe, so what else was I going to do?
This is a real work horse, it may not look like it but it'll pull any thing you chain to it.
It pulled an old full sized Chevy van with no tire on the front rim and the other three tires were low, the garden tractor has 4 gears and I was pulling that van in 4th gear low idle with out the duels and the weights and I never would of known it was back there.

Don't cuss the only thing I have.

farmall M

After the repair take off the duals.

The hubs as you found out will not take the bending, axles will be next. That outboard tire adds to much length outboard from the hub area.

Better to fill the rear tires, and add weight with only one tire per side.
