security cameras

Been thinking of installing security camers to watch things.Any experiences with these things?
So far all I know is that i want a FOUR camera system that will turn on a video recorder when motion is detected, and shut it off when there is no motion

We've used one in the foaling stall in the barn, and it works fine. It has about 250 feet of cord, with two connectors, but I can't see any reduction in the audio and video quality, regardless of how much cord you have on it (at least, up the the 250 feet). The guy I bought the extra cord from said don't try to splice it, it won't work right- just buy the premade cord and connectors. You should be able to use a motion sensor light in conjunction, to turn light and tape on and off. Don't know if it would be practical to wire a shotgun into the outfit as well. . .

Check out the trail or game cameras. Apparently, Buckeye puts out a truly digital wireless system that sends digital pictures to a base station up to a mile away. You can get regular game cmeras for around $300.

A friend just installed a 4 camera system at his business. It seems to work well, he said there are a few sensitivity adjustments he needs to make.. His system is tied into a PC, only records when it senses motion. Nice part is, he can check it from home, via the net. He was on vacation last week, so I checked on his building every day. Next week, we will see how well the recording part works..

there are systems out ther that go to a pc ,and you can mark spots on the screen you want that if anything there moves it will record..multi camera's etc..I'd bet there's even ability to phone a specific number ,but not sure ..lots a gagits out there...
Wish I'da had one set up few different times ...

We have one of these where I work. It works great the best thing about the PC recording is the ability to go directly to the time of day you want to see. Also i would suggest that what ever system you buy make sure you can add more cameras. It never fails that when you get one installed you find you need another camera or two.
