I"m rebuilding my 8n and accidently broke off the sediment bowl. I can see a copper tube left behind in the tank and now i"m stuck trying to figure out how this is all assembeled in the tank.It seems like some kind of glass epoxy that is used to set this whole stem back in,not sure, but looks as is so.
Should i buy a new one that has the screen and tube and drill out that old expoxy and reset the new one ?
I"m lost on this one.
Any help would be great, and what might the filler be that surrounds the copper tube?

Thanks fella"s,
Robert

They wouldn't have had fiberglas or epoxy "back in the day", so whatever you are seeing CAN'T be original, so all bets are off as to what someone has cobbled up .

OR, you are REALLY seeing the corroded remains of the old "pot metal" "stem" of the sediment bowl.

When you have cleared out what's left of the old sediment bowl, the tank should simply have a threaded "bung" (1/4" or 3/8" NPT... I can't remember for sure), and the "riser tube" and screen will come with the new sediment bowl.

Just put some gas-resistant pipe thread sealant on the new sediment bowl, and screw it into place.

Yes, I would think that is a threaded connection to the tank. Get a new sediment bowl and see what thread it is-probably the same as whats in the tank. Caution, don't use heat to try to get the old one out, this is a gas tank afterall and we don't want an explosion. I don't know if an easy-out is the answer ot not. Maybe a left hand drill if there is room. Again with the drill, use lots of oil to prevent sparks. Dave

Gene,

For Pete's sake... the sediment bowl is a generic thing... it doesn't matter if it's Red, Green, or Blue, or even that REALLY off-color" green it's pretty much the same thing! It has pipe threads, and screws into the tank!
