Sediment bowl replacement

The sediment bowl has two pickups - the tube sticking up is the main pickup. Using this pickup, you will run out of gas with an inch of it left in the tank. To access that last inch, you have to use the reserve pickup, which has no tube. The screen filters the gas going through the reserve pickup, which is selected by only turning the knob of the valve two revolutions from closed. Turned all the way out, the pickup with the standpipe is used.
I looked at an old one and you are correct. There is a small orifice in conjunction with the tube orifice.

The one I put in a few months ago just has a large pipe going up into the tank. I'm thinking just on or off. I grew up without the reserve on our old farm tractors so that's fine if it is.

Yup, the old H. Ferguson sediment bowls left enough reserve to get back to the barn to refuel, all one had to do was only open the valve 2 turns and when the engine ran out of gas, open the valve completely.
