seized 1030

Happy new year! I went and looked at a 1030 this morning. My intent was to buy the wrap around front weights for my 930. I bought the weights, but dang it was a nice straight original tractor. The owner was spreading manure 3 years ago and it locked up on him. He said he was draining the water out of the oil for awhile, but just didn't do it on this particular day. He pulled it in the shed and its been sitting since. I checked the oil and found it was at the top of the hole where you check, way over full, no doubt the water is still in the bottom of the pan. I was wondering if its possible to hydro lock these engines. He didn't do anything with it afterwards, just parked it. I initially suspected it spun a bearing, now I'm not so sure with the amount of oil/water in it. Any thoughts gents?

If it had a bad head gasket of a cracked head it could well fill a cylinder and then lock up. If it is a diesel and has a bad injector pump seal that lets diesel into the oil that too will lock nd engine up

I didn't think about the injector pump. I just assumed it has a cracked head, which is no big deal to replace. I made what I thought was a good offer, but that was assuming it spun a bearing and ruined the crank.

A number of years ago I had an A/C XT190 with a locked up engine due to the injector pump seal going bad and over filling the engine with fuel. Fill the cylinders with turpentine and let it sit a few days. Put a good battery in and hit the starter button with short fast taps. Very shorty there after I had to go look for a couple of the injectors since they flew out of the holes I had them in. So if you try what I did be sure you have the injectors out when you try to spin it over. I probably drained 3 gal of diesel out of the engine

, The first thing I did when I bought my 770 diesel was to drain the oil. Then let it set and see if you get water out of the oil drain hole. If it comes out ,more often than not it is a oring seal on the sleeve. You can pressurize the radiator to help it a long. Others will ring in and give more to check, but this is how I started and found one cylinder o ring faulty.
