Selling Strategy

I've been around guys selling and buying my whole life, and seen quite a lot of rude ones. Both sellers and buuyers. No point in being rude,no matter how dumb their offers might be.They won't be buying what they are looking at today, but they might come back and buy something else later.I've never been one of the,I'll scrap it first before I sell it for that crowd. It's just easier to say,no thanks.Years ago dickering was one thing, but it seems like it has turned rude and insulting. It still seems to be OK for old equipment, and old cars.I can answer emails on the computer, but I don't have typing on my phone. When somebody answers an ad I send them my phone number, and also say if you prefer me to call send me a number,up to you. Most of the people I deal with are glad that I actually want to talk. Most of the time we can find out in less than 60 seconds if we really want each others junk.
Agreed

Years ago I had a well used F550 bucket truck for sale, asking $15,000. Lots of lookers, not takers. So my business partner said raise the price to $20,000. The very next guy that looked, I told him we were asking $20,000. He countered with $17,500. I said SOLD!

the thing that makes me laugh is when they advertise stuff like an old tractor or truck while its still on their trailer, with a crazy price, which they must have gotten it for next to nothing. its like geez u could at least unload it . or maybe they think they can deliver it ?🤷‍♂️

Strangest Deal I've ever made was selling my jd 70. Pulled into the yard with the baler and a partial load of hay, my older partner was talking to another guy who asked 'how much for the tractor?' I shot him a ridiculous amount because I thought I wasn't selling. He wrote out check, unhooked the baler and drove off! My partner laughed and said we were just talking about where to find a good farm fresh 2 banger. I couldn't say no to that kind of money. 5000 for a 2500 dollar tractor and I had about 1800 in it.

That guy likely took it home and bragged to his friends how he got a real deal.
A buddy and I used to have a business installing garage doors. One man had pestered by buddy to install a new garage door for perhaps 6 months. One phone call my buddy had enough; he quoted the man a price $10K higher than the complete reconstruction of the door area would cost, the man agreed. So we had to work 4 days just remodeling the door area before the new door would fit and work well.
We assumed no-one else would quote the job is why he agreed to that high price.

Had the same thing happen to me, shooting a price to a guy pestering me. I got $3K for a $500 pick-up.

Went the opposite for me had guys "wanting to buy if you ever sell" So in the spring I did went and told them they about had a stroke and a thousand reasons why they couldn't buy!

When you are selling equipment, car, truck, motorcycle, lawn mower, implements or tractor how do you normally price it?

a. List item for the exact price you want and no negotiating.
b. List it 20-25% higher than what you actually want and see what offers come in.
c. Take the best reasonable offer, just to move the piece along.
d. Something else. (Explain your strategy)

Understand that the condition, age, and value to you makes a big difference, but overall, what is your go to strategy that you find works the best.
My strategy depends on the item being sold.

Low value items that I just want gone, price low to make it attractive. If not sold in two weeks knock down the price.

Higher value items I list the asking price at no more than 10 percent over my desired selling price. Include lots of pictures and an accurate description. Refuse to negotiate price until the person comes to look at the item in person.
