seperating a 70

I going to be spliting a 70 because of a serious growling noise in the gear train. Is there a place I can go on the internet to download or look at a service manual?? I went thru a Ford 8N a while back and was absolutly amazed at the help etc. I'm hoping for the same results with John Deere. Thanks for any help.. Ed In Oregon

I can't tell you where to look at a manual on the Internet. I bought mine from Deerly Departed (now Davenport Tractor). Their manuals are exact reprints of the originals.
Hope this helps.
Bill.

1-800-522-7448 for the service manuals. You don't get good for free.
Before splitting try pulling the pulley, 1st reduction gears, shifter off the top of the trans etc.
Have you narrowed down the noise? It could be an abused hydraulic pump or pto drive that some masher tried to shift while the engine was running.

The only thing you can get at by splitting is the differential. All the rest can be worked on while still intact and on all fours.

I have a 70 D service manual. Everything you need to get at shows that you don't need to go through all the work to spilt it. I too got my manual from Deerly Depaterted. Now Davenport tractor. I thought of scanning the pages for you but there's alot of them for the drivetrain!

Thanks for all your replys.... I did manage to find a complete parts book here on the net. I'll let you know what I find out. Been too busy lately!! Seems like March is not the month to get anything done. high school state bball tournament this weekend for instance. Thanks again to all who answered!! EGB in Oregon
