serial numbers on 1941 9N

Where do I find any serial numbers on a 9N Ford tractor, 1941?

On the left side of the engine block. Should start with 9N

How do you know it is a 1941???

Sn is on the left side of the engine block, above the starter, aft of the oil canister, below the seam o fthe head on a 1x4 flattened boss.. # is lightly hand stamped.
8n sn's begin with 8n.. 9n/2n sn's begin with 9n.. an 8n can have a 9n engine.. etc.

After looking at the pix and info on the web site, I think it is for sure. The man we bought it from said so. I can"t find any serial #"s but I haven"t looked too hard. Are there any numbers any where else on the tractor for id? Jan

Have you been to Smith's site?

The number on the engine block is the only SERIAL number, but there are casting date codes on many of the parts that will pre-date the actual "birthdate" of the tractor by a few weeks to the better part of a year, when the parts were actually CAST, then allowed to "season" for a while, before machining, and then used as needed for assembling tractors..
