I have a D15 series 2 diesel I want to clean up to sell, I found the serial # on the upper left side of the torque box but they don't seem to correspond with when the series 2 was made, it is D15 2144 D it's pretty legible and that's all I can find. Is that the correct number??
Thanks Randy

thanks Jeff,
What has me confused is the series 2 was'nt made until 1963-1967 and the begining serial # was 13001 according to the info. in the research& info.section in this forum. And my serial # has only 4 didgets.
Thanks, Randy

Sorry, I don't know about the diesel engine being changed but the early D-15 gas engine I believe was smaller than the later ones.
I think they went from a 149ci gas to a 160 ci gas around the 9000 serial number. I think the diesel engine was the same for all years.

Here is some info from Tractor Data to help you try to figure out what you have.

The Allis-Chalmers D15 Series II replaced the D15 for 1963. The D15 Series II featured gas and LPG engines that were bored 0.125 inch larger, while the diesel engine remained the same. Headlights were moved from the hood to the larger rear fenders, an oval muffler was added, and the air filters were changed from oil bath to a dry type. The D15 Series II is identifiable by the full-length white hood decals with the model number at the front.

Thanks Jeff,
I have owned this D15 for about 30 years and It did'nt have fenders on it when I bought it. But there is what appears to be headlight mounting sockets under the D15 decal on the radiator, and it has a oil bath air filter, and 14-9-28" rear tires. It has a round muffler but that could have been changed.
Thanks Randy

Randy,

It sounds like you have a Series I that has been "re-decaled". Your serial number points to a Series I, as does the oil bath air cleaner, headlight mounting holes on the radiator shroud, and round muffler. All D15 tractors used 26" rims (excluding specialty models), but I have seen more than one D15 fitted with WD wheels due to the lower cost of 28" tires. Your Series I would originally have had shorter fenders as Jeff mentioned, as well as aluminum hood nameplates instead of decals. All diesels (Series I and II) used the D175 engine. Best of luck.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for all the valuable info.! I believe you are right, I think it has been re-decaled. After reading your reply I looked a little closer at the decals, and although they appear to be about45-50 years old,you can see where they are covering up seven 1/8" holes on both hoods where an emblem would be attached! A big thank you to you and Jeff Z. for helping solve my problem!!

Randy
