Shelled a little corn today

Got the 105 out to shell today but the corn is 21-22% moisture. Plan was to shell about 8 acres and I have 12 acres of oats planted Aug. 1 and to mow both and chop 1/2 load of each and then bag the silage for my beef cows. My grain bin has a floor and fan but no dryer. I have air dried corn before but the last time that it was this wet we had a bunch of 80 degree weather. Nothing in my forecast like that. So will have to wait a few weeks. Here is an older pic of the 105 combine. Tom

I would not bin any under the circumstances you describe. Probably could do it if under 25 degrees and staying there or colder. But then at some point you would have to get it dry or have a very big mess to deal with.

I started picking and cribbing yesterday. I lack about two loads of having two cribs filled. Hopefully it won't rain too much, I have to open up another field with the combine. I need some to grind anyway, so I'll grind the shelled corn.

If the bin has a full air floor not just and aeration area in the cement floor I would just blow air on it and it will keep and dry some till you get some warmer temperatures. Though I would try to keep it down to about 6-12 inches for drying. A good spreader to make it even would also be a good idea for it.

Hey, that windows not open for ventilation?

Awesome looking machine, way cleaner than our95, when I got done, it looked like Darth Vader, dark.
Got a scrubbing.

Good luck there.

Great looking combine! Much better looking than my 95. As far as Wet corn we will bin corn like that later in November and freeze it, turning the air back on in mid April and not shutting it off for a month or more

One of our friendly competitors in the custom combining business had three 105s. Seeing the way those things tore through rye is what sold my father on getting a John Deere combine. (7700)
