Howdy,
Wife wants to order a $50.00 shovel from Gardeners Supply Co. They call it a Super Shovel, sharp teeth forged of high carbon steel break through roots and hard or stony soils, 39 inch fiberglas handle. Anybody familiar with this expensive shovel?
Thanks, Bob

I've got experience with a cheap shovel that was given away free when I bought something else. It was over priced! If you're going to use it a lot for hard digging, you get what you pay for. A good shovel makes a big difference.

Its likely from China like all the rest,if it doesn't break the bank get it then get a vintage one at a auction that's better for. $5-10.

Get her a Fiskars shovel. Either a D handle one or the "long handled diggind shovel"

Long handled one is 30 bucks on amazon but I think homedepot sells them for about that price. Lifetime gaurantee and all metal (no fiberglass handle). Made in Germany according to the amazon ads but you could get one with a china sticker on it.Still has the lifetime warrenty tho....

Just had my buddy mail me one and it's just slick.
Almost digs itself and real purty

Did ya'll know that the ideal load in a shovel is 21 pounds? I learned that in college.

(Actually, it was part of an efficiency study in a management class. If you're shoveling stuff, you're more efficient if the shovel is sized so a normal load is 21 pounds).

I'll second on the Fiskars shovel. I have a D-handle one that is the best shovel I've used. The blade holds an edge better than regular shovels and it's a little bigger than most. I found it at Menard's three years ago for around $30.

Dave - my wife has her OWN shovel. She got tired of hearing me gripe when I found my shovel put away with mud and dirt caked on it, and she went out and bought her own. I borrow it from her once in awhile, but I always promise not to clean it when I'm done. . . She always gives me "the look".

Hummmm, 21lb, that sounds like a government study. Too many variables, persons size, age, and what hs is trying to shovel. I think they were shoveling BS.

I'll third the Fiskars. Mine is the long handle, very comfortable, and I can't imagine anything that would damage it. Handle is steel and welded to the blade. Very robust. I've had a couple fiberglass handle shovels that were in the $20+ price range that have cracked and then folded over.

Forgot to ask you.... Does/did yours have a made in china sticker on it????

Howdy,
Forgot to mention, this shovel has teeth and it is for her use. Roots and stoney soil is the problem.

Safest bet is just get her what SHE wants.... She#ll never be satisfied with what you or we think is good and she'll never tell you if SHE made a bad choice, so you'll be happy too.....

Sears Craftsman -I have returned mine several times . Last time the salesman asked me if I wanted fiberglass or wood handle. I reverse electrical tape the label but they have never asked to see it.

I have read this several times and still have no idea what you mean.

Aaaaaanything that will cut thru roots & rocks is worth $50! But only if there is enough leg power behind it.
