Guys.......needed a can of "dust-off" to blow out and dry my hearing aides. So went to an office products store and found a spraycan. After patiently waiting in line, I put the can and a $10 bill on the counter and the clerk said "I need to see yer ID". WTF??? You need ID for CASH MONEY??? "no, I need to verify yer age".....I'ma 72yo graybeard and I am plenty old enuff to buy the product. "I need to put yer ID in the computer"......grumble-grumble, here's my ID.....And then the computer went down (frown)

Seems there's abuncha teenagers that like to sniff the stuff in spraycans fer abuzzz. Interestingly enuff, the can boldly states "Contains a bitterant to help discourage inhalant abuse".........the amazed Dell who is gittin' too OLD

Hey Dell-
Had a similar experience at Wally World last year. Went and bought a couple of cans of black spray paint to touch-up under the truck. Sales clerk would not sell it to me unless I showed her my driver’s license. Said too many kids bought it to spray graffiti. I thanked her for the compliment as I didn't think at 71 I looked anything like a kid.

Mike .... the young at heart!

I met an old man one day.
He said I just got a new heaing aid, and I can hear again 100%
The other guy said, I bet your family was proud of that.
He said I haven't told them, I just sit around and listen, and change my WILL.

Most of the computer ran checkouts these days are programmed on specific items like that. They will not let the clerk, enter, or sell them, unless they check ID and put in a verified birthdate.

No matter if you are 21, or 81.

Sadly, there is very little "common sense" left in this world, and the computer tries to be the check, and balance system, to keep the retailer out of trouble.

Well, I was gonna respond, but most of it has been covered... I think it's just the U.S. and State Governments looking out for us. They want to make sure that we as old oops, mature folks will live long enough to collect all of our Social Security, and that we don't get strung out on anything that will keep us form doin' that.
Paul in Texas... SECEDE Governor Perry!!!!

Dell, you are now entered in the Nigerian lottery, good luck..

sadly, the cost of this monkey business is going to be passed onto the consumer...

Mike,

I'm 49 and had the exact same thing happen in Wally world......I had to stop of a second and think why a kid would want spray paint...to sniff the fumes! And hell, when I was a kid I would find spray can and shoot them with my BB gun and watch paint go everywhere.

Ya Wal-Mart card people who they do not think are 40 or over if you buy any type of Boozes. Question is how do you tell if a person is over 40 with out asking for there ID.
Dell like you have have a gray beard and pretty much look my age or better so just take it this way it was a complement that they believe you where to young to buy that stuff LOL

Yeah, I can remember doing that as well. I kind of liked shooting old burned out light bulbs. When the BB hit, they would kind of explode.

I buy spray paints and other age required spray products at places like Wally-World, Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, etc and every now and then the clerk may say something like "its asking for your age" or clerk asks me "are you old enough?" and they continue to check me thru. If ever I were to be required to show ID for such a transaction I would politely refuse them and if the clerk were still persistant I would simply say no thank you and leave the store and my would be purchases would be left laying on the check out counter. There is an over ride on the register and if the store is not using it they are "phishing" those of us that are seniors.

Amen Brother-Preach on..kinda like the airport scan stuff..sad the old world is Gone and such stuff is required but can"t do anything about it but comply or don"t fly..better safe than sorry..

Dell, a quite a few years ago, I used to go down to Blane Washington weekly to get cheaper gas and occasionally I would pick up a case of beer to bring back with me and at that time I was 42 yrs old, I brought my beer to the counter to pay for it and the young guy asked me for my ID, well you should have seen his face go red, I told him I was going to give him a big hug & kiss for asking.

Happy Tractoring

I've always looked young for my age, but when I got into my 30's it started to get old getting carded. If a woman in her fourties would card me, I would tell her "c'mon, I'm old enough to be your son!" They would smile until the saw my card and did the math. If a cute young woman carded me, I would tell her that I was old enough to be her husband, and get the same reaction.

I am balding, 59 years old, and look it. A couple months ago I went into the grille at the local municipal golf course to buy some "swing lube" at the turn. The waitress who was probably older than me and just the way I like them - a little on the trashy side - asked to see my ID. I gave her my most winning smile and reached for my wallet - the smile disappeared however when I opened it up and my driver's license was missing. Now not only was I worried about the missing license but despite my obvious age the waitress wasn't about to sell me a beer without proper ID! Salt in an open wound! Ultimately she relented and I got the beer but I'm sure she was violating some direct order from her boss and risking getting in trouble. I had no problem with the strict "card everyone" policy - it was probably precipitated by someone exercising poor judgment and selling alcohol to an underage individual and getting nailed by the liquor control board. And if vandals are buying spray paint and trashing the neighborhood I have no problem showing my ID to the hardware clerk. Or to the pharmacist when I need some "real" Sudafed. There are enough real problems in the world - personally I don't feel the need to add to them by making mountains out of a few mole hills.

My brush with the ID police was in the "gret stet of Loosiana": I bought a lottery ticket on the drive through the state. I won a piddling amount of about $5 and decided to redeem it when we stopped again. I turned the ticket in and the clerk asked for my ID. It seems in Looosiana that you have to be 18 to buy and 21 to redeem (at least in 1999). No problem. I was 21. I took my winning walked to the candy aisle and returned with an M&M pack and I asked for some Camel Lights. You have to be 18 to purchase. No one else walked in, and I never left the joint. You guessed it, she asked for my ID 2 1/2 minutes after I showed ID to redeem my ticket.

It was same trip that I got a ticket for 63 in a 60 coming down off of the Atchafalaya swamp bridge on I-10. $239 later I was not a happy visitor. I drive the speed limit when I am compelled to go through that state.

I used to find the procedures curiously annoying when buying ammunition. If you were to buy .22 cal. ammo they would ask if it was for handgun or rifle. If the response was "handgun" then you had to show your papers to prove age of 21 yr. and *sign a record form* to purchase. If you claimed "rifle", no signature neccesary. If you bought handgun ammunition reloading components there was no signature requirement either. I don't even recall any identification.

I think Will Rogers was wrong; I think we get much more government than we pay for.

In Georgia, the ONLY PD that are allowed to give a ticket like that is a Georgia State Patrol.

All County, and Municipality police are required to give you 10mph over before a ticket, By Law.
(They used to run a lot of speed traps here for revenue, and the state busted many before the law)

GSP CAN give you a ticket for 1 mph over, but they too will nearly always give you 10 mph over.

I try to never be over 5 mph over.

Roger, Roger, Leslie Neilson is dead.
Just don't call me Shirley.

I think an exception in GA is in an active posted school zone. Any
Law officer can write one for the safety of the children.
