SI shifting problem

After I restored my SI tractor, Im having shifting issues. I pulled the tranny cover and replaced the gasket during restoration.
When I first got it going it stuck in reverse, and the shifter would not take it out of reverse. It felt like the shifter slipped out of the shift slot. I pulled the shifter and was able to move revers gear with screwdriver. Ive avoided using reverse, today I tried again and Id again will not come out of reverse.
I plan to pull the transmission cover and see what I can find. Anyone got any thoughts

Try holding the shifter down as you shift. If that helps there is something warn in the shift lever pivot that needs repair. If not pull the shifter and build up the end with the welder so it does not slip out of it's slot.
